Filled with Joy Card - Special stamp offer ends today

Happy Monday - is your summer off to a good start?  We made a lot of progress on projects around the house this weekend.  I am excited for my friend Joy of Obsessed with Scrapbooking who is headed to the Close to My Heart Convention at Disneyland this week.  She has been a consultant for about a year and has built up a great team and a successful business.

Joy has a special offer that ends today (Monday, June 23, 2014) at 11:59 p.m.  If you place an order on her CTMH website, she will send you this great Joyful Wishes stamp for free.  Don't add it to your cart - Joy will send the stamp to you directly.

This stamp is designed in a chalkboard style so I tried embossing it on green cardstock with white embossing powder.  I liked the effect but I decided I wanted something brighter and lighter to use for a card for a girl.  I think this sentiment works well for a graduation card.

I made a custom stamp mat for the image with my Silhouette software.  If you don't know how to do this, click HERE to see the post from April where I gave step by step directions.

Next, I stamped the image on the mat with Versamark ink and added white embossing powder.  I am always delighted with the change from the dull flat look of the embossing powder before you heat it to the beautiful glossy effect after the image has been embossed.

Here you can see how the results after heat embossing the image.

I used some Worn Lipstick distress ink to color the white cardstock, inking from the edges toward the center with an ink blending tool .

I got a little carried away so the color turned out about the same across the entire image.  My original idea was to have it much lighter in the middle but I like the way it turned out.

I made an A2 card with some rosy red Bazzill cardstock and added a layer cut from the Fireflies paper in the Citrus Squeeze collection by Adrienne Looman for Webster's Pages.  I inked the edges of the layer a bit with the same Worn Lipstick distress ink and added a sheer white ruffled edge ribbon from May Arts down the center.

I added a piece of blue gingham ribbon (American Crafts) down the center of the white ribbon.  After both ribbons were added, I adhered the topper to the card base.

Foam dots on the sides of the stamped and embossed image allow it to sit above the ribbon layers.  The mat has a "B" on the back because it is not a symmetrical shape.  I cut a batch of mats and keep them stored in the plastic envelope with the stamp to make it quick and easy to make another image.  It's much easier to line up the stamp when you know which side is "up"!

The card just needed one finishing touch - a bow from the same gingham ribbon.

The bow sits just at the base of the stamped image.  People sometimes ask how to tie small bows like this.  There are many ways, but I like the "fork" method.

I use an old silver fork that I keep on my craft table.  You just loop the ribbon around the tines and cross in the center to tie the ends.  The fork keeps it nice and flat.  My fork is a serving fork so one side is slightly larger.  I like the loops to be slightly different to add more character.

The fork is very pretty with a beaded edge pattern - it is fun to see it with my other crafting tools.  I like the easy perfect bows it makes with the tails going in the right direction.  (If you want me to post more photos of the bow tying process, just leave a comment and I'll put a photo tutorial together.  I'll need to wait until I have an "assistant" to help me by taking photos since I need both hands to tie the bow!)

Here is the final card - simple and cute with an inspiring message.

Don't forget, Joy's special offer is only good through the end of today (or while supplies last, so order early).  Click HERE to shop on her CTMH site.  Remember, do not add the stamp to your cart - Joy will mail it to you directly.

Just a few more days until our family starts arriving for a quick visit.  I'll be combining crafting and cooking most of this week!  Do you have any favorite recipes for a picnic/cookout/barbecue party?  We have certain family standards but it's always fun to add new dishes!  Suggestions are welcome in the comments!

    1. Hi Kristy,
I will try to get some step by step photos posted soon - we have family coming so I will have "guest photographers" here! It is very simple to do and the bows turn out nice and neat.

  2. Hi Diane,
What a cute card, love the background paper. I would like to know if you adhered the ribbons only in the back, or did you use an adhesive on the front as well for them not to move? I too would also love to see tutorial on the bow.

    1. The tutorial on the bow will be coming soon. I usually only adhere the ribbons on the back before I add the layer to the card. In this case, the stamped image is sitting across the ribbons and helps to anchor it. I try to pull the ribbons tightly to the back but not so much that they create tension that bends the paper layer. Sometimes I do use adhesive on the front - when I do, I find ScorTape works really well and never shows or bleeds through like a liquid adhesive might.

  3. Love your "tool"! Hope it is a special fork to you. I think I might "scraplift" this idea, and use a fork from my Grandmother's silver. I think it will be a fun way to be reminded of her. She inspired my love for crafting by teaching me to sew, making clothes for my Barbie dolls. My interest in crafts grew from there. I will be reminded of those times each time I see that fork! Thanks for the idea!
