We have been away for the past week or so and I took a bit of a break from blogging. I promised some photos from our trip and here are a few from California. We visited our son and daughter-in-law at their new condo, took a day trip up the coast and also went to the Botanical Garden at UC- Berkeley.
There are so many types of plants that we don't have here in the Northeast.

This praying mantis sculpture took me by surprise - it is on the roof of one of the small buildings.
I wonder if anyone can guess where I took this photo...
When we left California, we went on to Colorado to see more family. I will post some photos from that part of the trip later this month.

DeleteMy guess for that last picture is the Hearst Castle? I hope your family is well in Colorado, I know Jamestown was literally wiped off the map. I am praying for them.

Hi Janice - good guess but I have never been to Hearst Castle (it's on the list for one of our trips). This photo was taken somewhere in San Francisco (hint). Thanks for your prayers for Jamestown. Things have improved some since our trip in November but the town is far from "back to normal." It is a slow process to rebuild and many houses and even the land they stood on are simply gone. I am not sure what the red flower is - I'll have to look back through my photos and see if I caught the label in one of them. The gardens were so interesting and full of plants that I was not familiar with.
DeleteI saw that same flower in Hawaii in their botanical garden, it is not native to Hawaii. I thought it was so pretty, but I couldn't get the glitter effect it was giving off when I tried to take a picture. We are in Colorado, downriver of the Platte. It flooded a mile or two south of us. I told everybody if we were flooded, pretty much the whole front range would be wiped, we are on a pretty good hill.
DeleteLovely photos! I would guess the Big Sur area, or a bit south of there. We stayed in Cambria and Moro Bay a few years ago, driving down from Carmel. The scenery is breathtaking the whole drive. Thank you for sharing your pictures. BethAnn M.
ReplyDeleteThank you BethAnn! We actually went north this trip, up to Stinson Beach and on to Point Reyes Station and Bodega Bay. We did the Monterey, Carmel, Big Sur area last trip. The views of the Pacific are amazing, I love the rugged coast. The very last photo was the one I was wondering about - I like to focus on small details so it really isn't a very easy one to figure out!
