Lettering Delights Great Gift Giving Bundle and more - deals end today

It's the end of April already - does it feel like this year is flying by?  Our weather has turned very cold, in fact, it feels more like March with a high of 45 for Wednesday.  Thursday is May Day and a much nicer 72 degrees is predicted!

Do you give May baskets to family members of neighbors?  We haven't done this for many years.  I think it is a nice tradition.  There are a couple of groups of lovely baskets in the Lettering Delights Great Gift Giving Bundle.  The bundle is available at a special price but today is the last day for the sale.

The Great Gift Giving Bundle has some of my all time favorite sets of files.  Here are a few images - you can see everything in the bundle by clicking HERE or one any of the images.

There are 579 cutting files in the bundle - with the code "Peanuts45" the cost is less than 5 cents per file.

If you are not familiar with using the Lettering Delights cut sets, please click HERE to see my detailed post that gives step by step directions.  These files come in many formats that are compatible with most cutting machines.  If you are a Cricut user, you will need to have a Cricut Explore to be able to cut the SVG files.

Another bundle that is on sale is the Simple as Pie bundle.  The sets in this bundle contain images that usually have three layers or less.  I particularly like the Tin Soldiers and the Retro Residence sets.  If you spend just $2 more (just add a paper pack), you will be able to apply the "Peanuts45" code for purchases over $30 and the price will be $15.40, so the cost per file for the 305 files will be about 5 cents.

You can also earn the entire Hi-Dee-Ho Collection. When you spend $10 between April 1 and April 30th, the whole collection will be added to your library. This collection includes a paper pack, alpha set, graphic set and cut set.  The value of all this is $17 and it's yours free when you spend $10. You must sign into your account and view your library to be able to access this product.

Don't forget to use these codes!  Save 45% off a purchase of $30 or more with coupon code: Peanuts45. Or save 30% off a purchase of $10 or more with coupon code: Peanuts30.  The sale ends at midnight, today, April 30th (mountain time).

Do you have plans for National Scrapbook Day this Saturday?  Cara Miller, Debbie O'Neal, Joy Tracey and I are co-hosting and sponsoring a 12 challenge event from 9 am to 9 pm on May 3rd (also Kentucky Derby Day!).  The event is organized on Facebook - if you are a Facebook user and want to join in the fun please click HERE and ask to join the group.  There will be hourly challenges, four live chats and prizes!  Please join the page to get all of the details.

It's been a while since I posted a photo of Dorabella the cat.  We got such a kick out of her when she decides to sleep like this - faceplant straight on the blanket.  Is this odd or do other cats do this too?

Double Heart Medallion Card.

This is the card I made using some parts of the bargain invitations that I found at Staples recently.  It is a simple card to make when you need a lot of matching cards - perhaps for wedding shower invitations.   You could use the wedding colors along with the white heart medallion and silver borders and sentiment.

I punched the hearts from the top of the invitation blank.  In order to do this with my circle punch, I needed to trim off the border so the circle could be centered over the design.

I used three punches from three different companies to make the medallion.  The old blue Creative Memories punch for 1 1/2 inch circle around the hearts, a 1 3/4 inch Stampin' Up circle punch for the green layer and a 2 inch Close To My Heart scalloped circle punch for the bottom purple layer.

Sometimes it seems silly to keep all of these punches when I also have several die cut machines but I find you can't beat a punch for a quick project.  It is also so easy to punch the circle around a printed design and center it just the way you like.

I could have used just the scalloped circle - here it is with the 1 1/2 inch heart circle.  You could also use the 1 3/4 inch punch which would show more white around the hearts with a smaller border.

I prefer the look with two layers below the hearts.  This also allows you to use a couple of colors to coordinate for an event.

After trimming some of the silver borders to create "ribbons," I adhered them to the card front.  I usually cut pieces that are a bit too long so they can be trimmed to line up perfectly with the card edges.

The silver heart design from the original invitation reminded me of these overlapping hearts on the "Love Language" Cuttlebug die.

This die comes in a set with a cute heart dot embossing folder.  You can see it on the Cricut site HERE.  I bought mine when they first came out several years ago and I think the original price for the set was around $18.  This set is on sale now for $5.39 on the Cricut site.

There were six of these combo sets originally and I bought them all (I think I found a bundle price that brought down the cost a little).  The other one currently on the Cricut site is "With Gratitude" and it is also on sale for just $5.39 right now.  You can find it HERE.  I use the "thanks" on the lower left side of this die frequently- it is one of my favorites.

I cut the double hearts and the "love" from "love you" from some metallic silver cardstock.

A lighter purple cardstock on the inside of the card provides a place to stamp or write a message.

There are lots of ways you could make this card more elaborate - but sometimes, simple is the way to go!  If you are thinking of mass producing a card design it is always a good idea to count the steps needed to make it.  This one already has two border strips to trim, three punched shapes, two die cut shapes and an inner mat.  The medallion on the front is also raised with four foam dots.  This may already be too many steps to qualify as simple!

I hope you stay safe if you are in the areas affected by the tornadoes and storms.  It is frightening to see how fast they can come through a destroy everything in the path.

Tips for trimming narrow strips of cardstock

Earlier this month, I posted a card that incorporated a background that came from a bargain box of invitation blanks.

The box of 50 invitations and 50 response cards (and envelopes) was originally $24.99,  marked down to $3 and it rang up at $1.

This is the card and you can find the full post HERE.

In order to use the decorative silver striped edges, I needed to trim the sides.  This piece was from the top of the large invitation - I trimmed it off to use a punch on the hearts (I will show that card tomorrow).

When you have a thin strip of paper and need to trim it evenly, there are a couple of things you can try.  For this strip, I used my Cricut trimmer which has a clear line indicating exactly where the cut will be made.  Just a couple of strips of washi tape will hold the piece of cardstock straight for an even cut.  Washi tape is so thin that there is no effect on the cut.  It also removes easily.

Here is another trick if you want to trim just the edge of a piece like this striped border.  Just take a post-it note and attach the border to the sticky area.  This will give you enough to hold on to so you can keep the piece straight while you trim.

Here you can see the result - I was able to remove a very thin strip from the edge of the border.

I used these two piece of border to make the card that I will share tomorrow.

I hope these two tips are helpful - I used to get out my quilting rotary cutter and mat until I figured out these simpler methods.

I am still suffering from a cold and/or allergies and my blogging schedule is a little off so I am trying to catch up.  I love Spring but it isn't agreeing with me this year!

Find Patterns on Craftsy - or Sell your own!

This post contains affiliate links which means I will be compensated if you purchase after clicking these links.

Did you know that iIn addition to wonderful online courses and craft supplies, Craftsy also has an independent online pattern store that lets anyone upload and sell downloadable e-patterns with no fee!

I just recently found out about the pattern store - it is a fabulous resource.  When I checked today I found that there were over 77,000 patterns available in a variety of categories including sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, jewelry, embroidery, paper crafts (over 900) and "other" which includes cross stitch, tatting, stuffed animals and more.

My blogging friend Tammy Tutterow has some of her tutorials for sale on the Craftsy site (find Tammy's items HERE).  Tammy makes beautiful things and her techniques are carefully explained in step by step photos in a downloadable PDF file.

Would you like to add your patterns to Craftsy and start your pattern store? It’s easy to do...here's how:

1. Make sure you have a Paypal account. All pattern transactions happen through Paypal, and Craftsy requires that you have a Student, Premier, or Business account in order to sell patterns.
2. Put your pattern in .pdf format. You can’t upload any patterns to the online pattern store unless they’re a .pdf file format, so if they’re currently saved as a Word doc, .jpg, or other file format, you must convert it to a .pdf before you upload it to Craftsy.
3. Include a photo. All patterns must have at least one photo to accompany them, but you can add up to five photos. Colorful, interesting photos tend to work the best for catching our members’ eyes!
4. Fill out the pattern description. We will ask you some basic questions around your pattern making it easier for Craftsy folk to find your pattern and know what your pattern is for. Make sure you have info about your pattern handy for this step.

For more information on how to sell a pattern through Craftsy, or to get started, visit Craftsy today!

Safety Advice from a Friend

A couple of days ago, I read a post by my online blogging friend Ellen.  We almost met in person once when I was visiting my Dad in Pennsylvania but something came up and we weren't able to get together.  Her blog is called Card Monkey's Paper Jungle and she is a talented crafter.

Ellen knows several people who have recently had fires in their homes and she has written an excellent post about safety in your craft room.  You can find this post HERE.  Thanks to Ellen for pulling together this information.  There is a lot of great advice in her post.

I've been a bit under the weather - I thought I was catching a cold but I think it must be allergies.  It's great to have spring arriving but I hope the pollen counts go down soon!
