Today I have a quick post with another page from the Layout a Day (LOAD) challenge. We were supposed to change the process we use to make a page. I normally start with the photos and then build a page around them but this time I found a blank template and then tried to use it almost exactly as it was set up, finding photos to fit the spaces and then changing the papers and color fills to suit my photos.
One of the earlier versions of the page was similar but it lacked sparkle. The words and the scalloped border look very flat.
I applied a little digital magic and "glitterized" those elements. This was just what I needed to coordinate with the sparkles on the princess dresses and tiaras that the girls were wearing.
The method for making digital "glitter" will vary depending on the program you are using. You can photograph a glittered surface and use the photo as a fill for elements to get the glitter effect. I will try to get a quick video posted showing how I do this with the Panstoria Artisan software. It is very easy to do - just a few clicks and sliders to adjust.
I used the same process to glitter parts of the design that I created for the Blogoversary image.
The blog anniversary celebration continues throughout the rest of the month - just keep watching and commenting as I fill the three boxes. I have lots of goodies to add so check back often (every day if you want to).
Can you see what I added today (could you guess what it might be from the beginning of the post?) Yes - glitter! Each box now has two packages of glitter.
The glitter colors are garnet and peridot (these are my bottles of the same colors). I figured everyone could use red and green - either together for Christmas or individually for Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day.
How do you play along in the blog celebration giveaway?
To enter for a chance to win one of the three boxes - see all of the details on the first blog celebration post HERE. Then come back and get your comments in on this post. Remember, if you sign up for the new newsletter (see the box at the top right of the page) I will be choosing one person from the subscribers as a box winner (you don't need to leave a comment here since I can see that list).
Glitter - yes or no? Are you a person who thinks almost anything looks better with a little bling or do you think glitter is messy and way more trouble than you want to get involved in. If you like glitter, are you a collector of glitter? I have so many bottles and jars of glitter! Even if I can't use them all up, they do make the room look pretty. Do you have a funny glitter story - please share it below in the comments - thanks!
I was surprised by some of the answers to the washi tape question - quite a few of you said you didn't have any washi tape or that you had some but didn't use it. I will try to show a few more projects with washi tape here on the blog, but in the meanwhile, check out this fabulous washi tape ideas roundup by MelStampz.
Please be sure to leave her a comment to say thanks for the wonderful resource she has provided (you can tell her I sent you!).
one more thing...
The February Issue of "create" - the new free magazine from Scrapbook Generation - is now available to view and/or download. Just click HERE to go to the site and get your copy.
I hope that all is well if you are in the areas affected by this big winter storm. I have heard that many people are without power. Don't go out unless you absolutely have to - it's best to stay off the roads.
PS - I did order the Cricut Explore - I hope it lives up to my expectations! I'll be reviewing it once it arrives later this month.

I have a few glitter colors but tend not to use them. Maybe I need more ideas on how to make it stick. Thanks for the link for washi tape ideas. caroleewin at roadrunner dot com.
ReplyDeleteI don't use a lot of glitter but love the effect when I do. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI LOVE glitter. I stick it on just about everything. Do I get messy with it? yes Does that stop me from using it? no The older I get, the more I love glitter.
ReplyDeleteI really like the look of Glitter and I use it. Not all the time but when I want something to really pop I do.
ReplyDeletethanks for the link for some washi tape projects.
Glitter! I have Lots. Enough that would last me a life time and then some. It's the cheap kind that I had bought a few years ago when it was on sale....cheap and I bought a bunch but I gotta say; it isn't as good as the name brand kinds.
ReplyDeleteHope Everyone has a happy Valentine's Day
Y'all enjoy your day

I LOVE GLITTER!! I confess... I have a few sampler sets from Martha Stewart and larger jars of the basics. Even just a little glitter can really make a card!!
ReplyDeleteBTW, by the time I got home and turned on the Explore launch, it was sold out! What did you think about all of the Anna Griffen extras? What I saw after the fact looked interesting...
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of glitter. In fact, I just bought more MS glitter that was on clearance. I don't use it often, but it can really finish off a project. I agree that everyone could use red and green glitter!
ReplyDeleteLove using glitter pens and glitter glue, especially when making holiday cards - very easy and much less mess!
ReplyDeleteI try to use glitter whenever possible. I love the added bling it can give a card without being overwhelmed by it. Sometimes a little goes a long way!
ReplyDeleteI have a few bottles of glitter but rarely use. I love to add bling to a card but generaly don't use glitter to bling it. :) I have learned so much from following your blog. Thank you for all the tips.
ReplyDeleteI go thru glitter phases. Sometimes I love it other times I think it puts my project over the limit. I usually scrap teenage boys and it's hard to work glitter in. Enjoy your snow day. Today we use up our snow day budget and start adding days in June. ( I'm in western mass)
ReplyDeleteI like glitter, thanks to some of your projects. I don't know if you would count this as funny, but I made the glass Christmas ornaments with the glitter and floor wax. I chose the best one and cut out some vinyl with my Cricut, it was beautiful! I was giving it to my secret santa at the school I worked at, who happened to be my best friend there. When she opened it, it had broken! :'( But what a mess, glitter and the smell of floor wax the rest of the day. Good thing the principal didn't come in and wonder where the toxic smell came from! But it was an elementary class room, so I guess that was nothing new. lol.
ReplyDeleteWhat's not to love about glitter? I love it. It always adds a little sparkle to projects. It's like the icing on the cake. Always needed.
ReplyDeleteGlitter, glitter everywhere! Seldom a week goes by that someone hasn't pointed out the mysterious sparkle somewhere on my body! lol
ReplyDeleteDidn't order the Explore, too upset over my second Gypsy dying the night before. Have over 150 cartridges linked, including all the Imagine and I've hit a dead end with Cricut. :( Maybe a little more glitter would cheer me up?!

Glitter-yes,yes,yes. I love the bling. I also love your Blog, You helped me learn the Design Studio and it is still a program I use often to make welded images with my cricut. Thank you for all the great information your share. Happy Blog Anniversary!!!
ReplyDeleteI love things glittery. However, I take the easy way out. I use glitter paper, stickles, gems, etc., rather than working with the bottles of glitter.
ReplyDeleteI have more glitter than I should, as the commentor above said, I go through phases. I love glitter but have become a huge fan of glitter glue (i.e., Stickles) because I seem to have better luck controlling it. That seems backwards somehow. Anyway, red and green are always useful, and I love the opalescent and diamond looks!
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a limited glitter user. :) I have more than I use (like most of my supplies)
ReplyDeleteI'm a FB fan too!
ReplyDeleteSomeone actually bought me a stamp that said 'Glitter Queen'..lol..I've actually had comments that when seeing a card I made without some kind of glitter said I 'forgot' something..lol..I admit that sometimes I get lazy and will add Stickles for that glitter affect.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of some glitter or sparkle, but sometimes, it is a bit messy. I like glitter paper, too. Hope you can show us some neat tricks with the new Explorer! bmarczak68atverizondotnet
ReplyDeleteI have some glitter, but it has to be a really special project for me to pull it out and put out the effort. With Stickles I can apply glitter without the mess, so it is used much more often in this house!
ReplyDeleteI love glitter...I esp love the microfine glitter in a clear iridescence. This is great for a polished velvet look....Color it up with Copics and it is gorgeous....LOVE IT! I make a big mess when I use it. I also LOVE my clear embossing powder with iridescence in it.
ReplyDeleteI don't use glitter. Most of the cards that I make are for Operation Write Home and glitter is not allowed. It has a tendancy to get into everything so it is best to leave it in the jar.
ReplyDeleteI do have tons of glitter that I've picked up on sale over the years, but as with much of my "collections" I rarely use it. My daughter and I did make the glitter christmas ornaments one year. I have a lifetime supply of floor wax!
ReplyDeleteOh my....I have lots of glitter. I have glittery paper, glittery glue, clear glitter paint, glitter pens and tons of regular glitter. I love glitter. I have a new grand daughter and she is our little princess so glitter it very necessary for all of her cards and scrap pages. Fun Fun Fun! I love glitter!

Glitter makes everything so pretty. I don't have a ton as I am in a family of boys so use some of Tim Holtz's glitter (don't I sound like a broken record - LOL) and have some others for those times that I scrap about myself, friends and the occ. card.
ReplyDeleteSorry about all the weather issues that those in the east/south are having. I live in WA state so we have been very lucky snow wise this year, but right now the rain/wind are really howling.
Good luck with your Explore. I was a dyed in the wool cricut fan since 2006 until last fall when I sold everything went to the other side and got a Cameo. I have to say I love how it does all the things that PC promised the Imagine would do and now the Explore (no print and cut until later this year). I get clean tiny (I do mean tiny!) cuts and perfect circles every time. Keep up posted on how it goes.
Linda
I do have glitter, a lot. I purchase it because of the colors...they do look like jewels, but most are sitting in my drawer. I do use the basic color often.
ReplyDeleteI like glitter! I love Elizabeth crafts glitter that you burnish after you apply it - it looks like silk!
ReplyDeleteI do have glitter, but I either forget I have it or it just gets all over the place when I do use it, so it doesn't get used very often but I should because it looks so pretty. If I do need a little glitter I tend to reach for the stickles.

I don't use bottled glitter flakes much except in Christmas ornaments but I use glitter pens and Stickles on almost everything! I'm using glitter paper I won from you a couple of years ago on my husband's Valentine's card for tomorrow!!

Loose glitter is just messy! I like stickles when I need some bling. Surprised you got the Explore, can't wait to hear your opinion.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of glitter but not so much the mess. I do use it once in a while, but of course I have lots of it, just too pretty to pass up those beautiful colors.
ReplyDeleteA crafter can never have too much glitter. It can get messy but I love useing it.
ReplyDeleteMy use of glitter is with Stickles...not as messy as regular glitter! Sometimes I just put some on and rub it around with my finger...it dries much faster and isn't as thick as covering the whole thing with stickles from the bottle. I love to use glitter and other bling -- especially on my DGD's pages.
ReplyDeleteI love FINE glitter, but not the chunky stuff.

I like bling but usually get it with glitter cardstock, rhinestones, pearls, Stickles, or Viva Decor Pearl Pens. Occasionally I use glitter especially for my young granddaughters.
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of sets of glitter but I am definitely not a collector.
I have many bottles of glitter. I love using it. Also use Stickles and glitter gel glue pens. I think a card isn't dressed up without some kind of bling. If it's for a guy then I usually don't sparkle it up.
ReplyDeleteI love glitter. Several years ago I was introduced to Stickles and now use them a lot to sparkle up my pages
ReplyDeleteGlitter is a no-no in my craft room. Since I make cards for Operation Write Home I want to keep our troops safe from midnight snipers! I will use stickles but have to coat them with glossy accents to make sure they don't rub off!
ReplyDeleteI love glitter, but not the mess. So, I tend to use stickles or glitter cardstock.
ReplyDeleteI like glitter, but only have a few bottles--gold, silver and white. I guess that's the bare essentials. I don't use it often, but like to have it on hand when I need a little extra bling on what I'm working on.
ReplyDeleteI use glitter on almost every project. I have a large set of the Martha Stewart glitter and a bunch of other brands that found their way home with me just because the colors were so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI recently bought the DCWV glitter paper pack and love the way that my Cricut Expression cuts it. The paper is so very sparkly!
I do love glitter. Stickles are my favorite my husband calls me the Glitter Queen all of my projects have to have some type of bling.
ReplyDeleteLuria
I bought some glitter to make beautiful glitter ornaments a few Christmases ago. Then found a whole slew of glitter bottles at Marshalls, so bought those. But, to tell you the truth, even though I LOVE the look of glitter, I am hesitant to use it because it makes such a mess that I find spread throughout the area for days!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE glitter!! Everything looks better with bling. Funny story...I have 2 dogs that love to "help" clean up the floor of my scrap room. If I'm not careful, they eat anything left on the floor, including glitter. How do I know they eat glitter? When Oreo has sparkley poop. Yep, I had to explain to everyone at the dog park why my dog's poop was shimmery. I was so embarrassed, at least it was pink sparkley poop!!
ReplyDeleteOh ya I'm a glitter girl. 47 tubes of the sparkly stuff. Here is a story my girlfriend sent me after seeing me with glitter all over my face. Early one morning, I received a call from the doctor’s office to tell me that I had been rescheduled for that morning at 9:30 am. I had only just packed everyone off to work and school, and it was already around 8:45 am. The trip to his office took about thirty-five minutes, so I didn’t have an time to spare. As most women do, I like to take a little extra effort over hygiene when making such visits, but this time I wasn’t going to be able to make the full effort. So, I rushed upstairs, threw off my pajamas, wet the washcloth that was sitting next to the sink, and gave myself a quick wash in that area to make sure I was at least presentable. I threw the washcloth in the clothes basket, grabbed some clothes, hopped in the car and raced to my appointment. I was in the waiting room for only a few minutes when I was called in. Knowing the procedure, as I’m sure you do, I hopped up on the table, looked over at the other side of the room and pretended that I was in Paris or some other place a million miles away. I was a little surprised when the doctor said, “My, we have made an extra effort this morning, haven’t we?” I didn’t respond. After the appointment, I heaved a sigh of relief and went home. The rest of the day was normal: some shopping, cleaning, cooking, etc. After school when my six year old daughter was playing, she called out from the bathroom, “Mommy, where’s my washcloth?” I told her to get another one from the cupboard. She replied, “No, I need the one that was here by the sink, it had all my glitter and sparkles saved inside it.”
ReplyDeleteI laughed so hard as this could of happened to me.
Thanks you
Linda in Stanwood
I love the sparkle of glitter but not the mess it makes so I rarely use it. I keep several inexpensive jars around for my granddaughter to use when she visits. Right now red glitter from her valentine projects is everywhere I look. :)
ReplyDeleteDiane,
ReplyDeleteI love glitter and I like using glitter paper too. I have 5 little grands and they all love the sparkly stuff! I am curious to see what you find with the Explore. I watched the release on HSN and it wasn't very good, more selling talk than actual talk about the ability of the machine.
I have every color of Stickles and use them regularly. I love the look of loose glitter and have bought a rainbow of colors, but never use them cause I know I'll end up wearing them all day! I agree, they do make a room look pretty though!!! I have a kinda funny glitter story: I have a crafty friend who actually glittered her craft room floor. She and her husband coated the floor in adhesive and covered it in glitter. They poured a sealant over it but the glitter still comes off, and because of the adhesive it is a little sticky. She came over one day to craft and when she left I noticed a lot of glitter on my floor. I realized she must leave a trail of glitter everywhere she goes! :-) Reminds me of the saying "I'm so crafty I sweat glitter" Makes me smile every time I think about her trail of glitter!!!
ReplyDeleteHi - I love the look of glitter, but I get it everywhere. Seriously. Even when I undress/dress for bed I find glitter. My poor little black dogs are covered in glitter. It's not good. But I do love it! I guess I'm a born glitter girl.
ReplyDeleteI am a Facebook fan :)
ReplyDeleteIdo love glitter and anything with bling! It lasts quite a while so I bought a MS collection a while ago and still use it. I, too, ordered ;an Explore, will have to see how it goes. 'lll be eagerly watching for your review. I do wonder how the mats will last if the computer sets everything up for you. Will it always start at the top? like to move mine around so I can evenly wear the mat.I;ve been busy making valentine cards for my grandkids using the Cameo. Having so much fun! Hugs.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks better with some type of sparkle. I have bottles of glitter but I really don't pull them out because of the messiness. I would rather use glitter glue or stickles to try and achieve the same effect.
ReplyDeletevvallen at Comcast dot net
I use glitter paper in my card making and scrapbooking. I haven't attempted using glitter by itself. It would be fun to try.
ReplyDeleteCassie
Everything is better with a little sparkle and shine! Glitter is worth the mess. I can't wait to hear what you think of the Explore when you get it.
ReplyDeleteI have every color of the Martha Stewart fine glitter, a ton of stickles and pearl pens. I have a love/hate relationship with all of them. I love to use them but the glitter goes everywhere (it was in my dog's food bowl for quite a while even after being washed twice a day for a week!). I love stickles and pearl pens, but hate that they take so long to dry. I do still continue to use them but prefer glitter paper since it is faster and easier.
ReplyDeleteDiane most certainly everything looks better with a sparkle!
ReplyDeleteLove Love Love Glitter, from the glitter tape, to my glitter paper for my Cricut....it is nothing for me to find little specks of glitter throughout my house!! LOL
ReplyDeleteInterested in your review of the new Cricut. Glitter, wow, it's hard to resist, who doesn't need more sparkle in their lives. I'm off to read about washi tape, I bought a cool carousel full of it at Costco and I want to play.
ReplyDeleteI think everything should have something that sparkles. Glitter is very messy so I don't use it very often. I use Stickles a lot. Maybe I need to try new ways to stick glitter. Some may not be so messy.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE glitter!!! I don't use it all the time, just when I feel its right to use it. Sometimes I pile it on, sometimes I just add a subtle bit of it with my glitter pens. I do have a fairly large collection of all kinds of glitter, especially the stickles!
ReplyDeleteI love glitter and bling, but don't get to use it much since we have mostly boys in our family. But I have one granddaughter who also loves "sparklies" so I try to use them on her layouts and cards. Thanks for the chance to win - you are so very generous!
ReplyDeleteI am not much of a glitter person. I use it very sparingly. I love it when I see it on other peoples projects, but not on mine.
ReplyDeleteKaren
love sparkles, but have to watch who sending it to, some don't like. Try not to have any 'dusting' off . thanks for chance to win and good luck to everyone.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE sparkles! I don't use a lot of glitter because of the mess, but do use it occasionally. Always have to add some kind of bling to my cards - I have lots of stickles and some glitter pens that I use often.
ReplyDeleteSandy C of Missoula MT
I do not care for glitter. I only have boys, so there is not much opportunity to use glittery stuff. It also seems to end up in my eyes!
ReplyDeleteWahoo. Glitter, glitter, glitter.

The glitter really added so much to your layout. Look forward to seeing all you do with the Explore. I went online when I got home for work and watched the show there but they were already sold out. Oh well I get to save up a little more money toward that purchase I guess.
ReplyDeleteI like to buy glitter but I never remember to use it.
ReplyDeleteI do like the look of glitter on certain projects. I use it mostly on layouts so that any loose glitter stays in the scrapbook sleeves. For cards, I use glitter pens.
ReplyDeleteI love glitter and use it often. I never even care if I get it on my person - glitter makes everything look better, even me! Wish I had a funny glitter story to share, but I don't. I just have fun with it, and all those sparkles make me smile.
ReplyDeleteI love glitter, I don't seem to use a lot of it, but when I do I love the look of it.
ReplyDeleteI love glitter and bling. I don't use glitter as much as I would like although I am getting better at remembering I have it.
ReplyDeleteLove glitter, super fine, medium and my sparingly used glass glitter. Wearing it is half the fun and when opening something and finding glitter makes me smile. My grandkids love using glitter and wearing it(especially making me wear it).
ReplyDeleteGlitter is a yes! And stickles too! If I can claim one thing on almost every layout is glitter!
ReplyDeleteWill look forward to your review of the Explore. Love stickles and use lots of fine glitter to make Christmas ornaments (method using floor wax). Prefer heat embossing on cards. I can be put off by the mess.
ReplyDeleteI'm not that experienced with glitter, so I really don't have a funny story to share. I do love the colors you chose. I think I'd like to give it a try, and if I do, red and green would be great colors to have...just as you said...so universal...Christmas, valentines, st Patrick's and even 4th of July.
ReplyDeleteI have to say the same thing about glitter that I did about washi tape. I have some old, old stuff that I used in other crafts and very rarely use on cards. I may use the heavier clear glitter on snow cards but that's about all.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane. I am a glitter lover too! I have several bottles of the brand in your example, love the new ones from T Holtz. It seems I use it often for a while and then put it away for a bit. I think more at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteStay warm! thanks for the links!

I don't use a lot a glitter because of the mess. I bought some of Tim Holtz's new glitter and I need to play with it more. I really like it.
ReplyDeletehaven't used glitter, but would like to learn how to use it without it being a mess. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love bling! So far I have stuck to glitter paper glitter glue and self adhesive jewels. I do have some silver & blue glitter but I'm afraid I'll make a horrible mess once I open them. My nephew calls glitter the herpes of the craft world because it spreads everywhere. anticil at comcast dot net
ReplyDeleteI hate glitter! It makes such a mess. I always have glitter everywhere when I use it no matter how careful I am using it.
ReplyDeleteI love using glitter, it adds shimmer to the my projects. Everyone knows when I have used glitter as it ends up all over me LOL I just wanted to sparkle too ;) I have a bunch of Glitter from the Martha Stewart sets .
ReplyDeleteLOVE glitter!!! I have three little girly girls and we live in a glitter world. My new craft area will have ths awesome quote on the wall.... " I'm so Crafty, I sweat Glitter!!" Love all the MS glitters and Stickles are fabulous - I just wish I had Stickles in Navy Blue.
ReplyDeleteI don't use glitter much, altho know that you mention it, I can probably find a good bit of it, from when I first started making cards years ago....an definitely stickles....hmmmmm
ReplyDeleteI hate glitter it makes a mess. Meredith245 at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteI think glitter is very pretty. I do have trouble getting the right amount. I do collect, glitter . It is so pretty and I know that one day I will find just the right project for that purple glitter, etc. etc. etc. I do not have peridot though. Kathie kdobbins194807@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI love glitter. I most recently used it to cover up some imperfect cricut cuts.
ReplyDeleteI love glitter and have a large collection of pretty colors!! My 5 year old granddaughter loves it too and mixed up some with water and painted her wall! Gooey mess but beautiful to her. Now the glitter is kept on the highest shelf!!!
ReplyDeletei love adding bling but usually glitter is too messy especially since little dustings of it seem to multiply in the trail of anything i use it on. So i turn to little rhinestones and shimmery paper- that's usually as far as I go.
ReplyDeleteHow adorable! Happy blogiversary!
ReplyDeleteI have lots of glitter in all types and colors. When I use it, it's usually with the "less is more" approach. Rarely do I go over the top ... except, of course, with glitter ornaments ... I love glitter ornaments!!

Love glitter...you can never have too much glitter. I use glitter of some sort on almost every project I do.
ReplyDeleteI like bling, but can't love glitter. Glitter seems to ALWAYS find its way into my eye! ALWAYS! But has that stopped me from using it - not completely... so every now and again I will pull the glitter/flock box down & do something.
ReplyDeleteNo I don't glitter much, I seem to just make a BIG mess. I use my glitter pens more and like them better.
