Fireworks Photography - Some Great Tips
Fireworks are an important tradition for Fourth of July celebrations. Here in Concord, we don't have fireworks every year but Boston is famous for the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular along the Esplanade. This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the event. People arrive very early in the day to find spots in the Oval (the area in front of the Hatch Shell where the orchestra performs) and spend the day waiting for the performance to start. This event is usually televised nationally so some of you probably have seen it over the years.
The fireworks show is always spectacular. Some of the best viewing for the fireworks portion of the show is on the opposite side of the river. Fireworks are such a brilliant sight but they are always finished too fast. I think the fact that they are so short-lived makes them even more special as part of a celebration.
The page at the top of this post is one that I did for Layout A Day challenge in May and I shared more details about it in THIS POST just before Memorial Day. The eight photos on the page were from the twenty or so that actually turned out well from the hundreds that I took. I did not have a tripod with me so these were the "lucky shots."
If you want to try taking some fireworks photos this year, I highly recommend that you visit Nick Kelsh's site, howtophotographyourlife.com, and read his excellent advice and tips on How to Photograph Fireworks.
Do you take fireworks photos? Do you think you might try after reading Nick's great tips? I'd love to see your images if you'd like to share them.
It's hard to think about celebrating after hearing the sad news about the loss of so many firefighters in Arizona. I hope that the fires can be brought under control quickly and my thoughts and prayers are with their families and any of you affected by this terrible fire season.
