Luck of the Irish Card

Today I have one more St. Patrick's Day card to share - this card was made using free files from Silhouette America and Lettering Delights.

Every week the Silhouette Online Store offers a free file and an assortment of files for 50 cents.  The files change on Tuesdays.  This week the free file was for a shamrock box.  They are also offering 25% off on all St. Patrick's Day shapes through Sunday.

After placing the file on the mat, I ungrouped the design and used just the shamrock to create a shaped card.  To do this I selected the shamrock and resized it to a standard A2 size (5.5 x 4.25 inches).  Then I used the "mirror" function from the replicate menu and moved the two images to overlap slightly.  I welded the two shapes and resized one more time to 8.5 x 5.5 to make the proper sized card.

Before I welded the card together I made a duplicate of the shamrock and used the internal offset command to make a top layer and a liner.  I cut the shamrocks from green glittered cardstock for the topper and white embossed cardstock for the liner.

The card base is a dark green Core'dinations cardstock and I first cut the sentiment from the same cardstock but I thought it looked too dull.

I looked through my specialty cardstocks and found these two gold options.  The top is the Dazzle cardstock from DCWV and the bottom foil with the linen texture is by American Crafts.  I chose the shinier foil cardstock because I thought it looked more festive.

You might recognize this lettering if you have a sharp eye - I traced one of the phrases from the Lettering Delights subway art freebie and altered the size of the words to suit my card.  Even the tiny words cut very well with the Cameo.

Here you can spot the phrase that I used (right across the middle of the card topper from yesterday's post).  I added two of the four leaf clover shapes from my Martha Stewart punch (also used yesterday) to fill the spaces at the bottom, a couple of swirls from an punch that has been in a drawer for years and a few gems to finish off the card.

The inside needed a white liner to allow a stamped sentiment or hand written message to be added.

You can see that the card fits perfectly in a regular invitation sized envelope.

It's fun to see how much use you can make of images by altering them and using different pieces to create new things. Whenever I buy a shape I consider the hidden potential.  It's especially fun to see how far you can stretch a freebie!

Have a great weekend - we have a very full schedule with family events so I might not be posting until next week...Be sure to wear green tomorrow to prevent pinches!
