Happy Pi Day! (and a sweet deal)

Yesterday was 03-13-13 and tomorrow is the Ides of March.  While these dates are interesting, they fall short in one respect - they lack a dessert connection!

Today is March 14 or (3.14).  If you have a child in school or just happen to be a bit of a math geek you know that it is "Pi" Day.  Pi  or π is the symbol for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.  Pi = 3.1415926535…  It is an irrational number and continues without repeating.

March 14 is also Albert Einstein's birthday.  The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) releases admissions decisions for the incoming freshman class on March 14 - at "Tau" time or 6:28 p.m.  Tau is 6.28...  or 2π and uses the radius instead of the diameter.  If you do an internet search on Pi Day you will find all sorts of interesting activities and information.

Are you celebrating Pi Day?

If you are a digital scrapper, you might already know about "One Buck Wednesday" at Jessica Sprague.  Every week some items from the Digital Shoppe are offered for either $1 or 50% off.  Click HERE to go to the home page and then you'll find news and announcements with the link for One Buck Wednesday in the lower right corner.

Normally this sale lasts only for the day on Wednesday but this week the sale has been extended to be "One Buck Wednesday-Thursday" and will last until midnight Pacific Time today (Thursday).

Sometimes there are incredible deals, like this mega pack called Cuckoo 4 U by Samantha Walker (one of my favorite designers).  This huge set is just $1 (originally $26.99) - but only until midnight!  This week there are items from Echo Park, Carta Bella, Jenni Bowlin, Lori Whitlock and other well known designers.  Lately some kits with SVG cutting files have been offered - so it is always a good idea to check the Jessica Sprague site on Wednesdays!

I have used lots of my digital kits from Jessica Sprague with the Silhouette Studio software.  There are so many possibilities with the print and cut feature.  This birthday card is an example of digital elements and papers used to print and cut all of the pieces for a paper card.  You can read all about this birthday card  HERE.   When you see the Silhouette machine cut out these printed digital images so perfectly it just makes you smile!

528077_SilhouetteYou can find lots of great classes on photography, digital design, Photoshop, album making, Project Life and much more at Jessica Sprague.  There is also a series of classes about the Silhouette software by Kerri Bradford, currently on sale for 25% off.  Check out the current courses HERE (use the drop down menus at the top left to see all of the topics).

I won't be making pie today - I am trying to avoid sweets for a while.  My sweet treat will be to spend some time in my craft room after I get a few sets of documents sent off in the mail.  I am still plowing through paperwork for my Dad's estate but I am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

  2. Thanks for the interesting facts. Instead of Pi day, I celebrate the birthdays of my middle son and my granddaughter.
