CHA Sneak Peeks
The Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) Winter Show is earlier than usual this year - in fact it starts this Friday! I wasn't at CHA last year because it was at exactly the same time as the PaperWorld Show in Germany which I attended with Mandy and Enfys (you'll find posts about that show in the archive for last February - click on February 2012 in the "Blog Archive" in the left side column and look closer to the beginning of the month).
Trade shows are great fun (and a lot of work). You have the chance to meet up with all sorts of people in the industry, take classes and learn about the new products. In Germany last year, I tried lots of new things and even did this oil painting! (click HERE to read about that experience - I'll try anything once!).
Most of the manufacturers and designers have been revealing their new lines and products online already but I am sure there will be some fun surprises at the show. Tim Holtz (who generates rock star excitement wherever he goes at the show and is amazingly patient and nice to everyone) has lots of goodies coming including new Distress Paints. Check his blog HERE for the reveals he has done so far.
If you check lots of blogs you can piece together information about the new and interesting products but there are several places that will help you with shortcuts and links all in one place. Scrapbook.com has a great page HERE with links to over 60 sites. On Nancy Nally's Scrapbook Update site you can find the sneak peeks HERE.
Charity Wings is doing another Live from CHA event - you can see all of the details on their blog HERE. There will be three days of live streaming interviews and product showcases. Kendra Wiggins has been making the most amazing angel wings for Elena to wear at CHA - there is a photo on her blog HERE and I have seen progress photos on Facebook showing the incredible beaded details.
I am still recuperating from this flu - so I guess it's a good thing that I hadn't planned on making the trip to California this time. We had good news today - our son and daughter-in-law arrived back in San Francisco safely from their trip to India for a wedding. We also had some sad news - my Dad has been admitted to the hospital in Pennsylvania with flu and pneumonia. I don't know what the next few days will bring - we'll have to take it one day at a time. The evening news led with a story about the flu epidemic last night - it's bad and may get worse as we are still early in the season. At least he is in a room at the hospital not in the hallway or a tent. All of your thoughts and prayers are most gratefully accepted.

DeleteThis flu going around is awful and there's also an ear/sinus infection that's really hard to get rid of. You take REALLY good care of yourself to get over this AND your dad will be in our prayers. I have COPD and have had pneumonia a couple of times - it just takes every ounce of energy out of you and takes such a long time to heal - hope he feels lots better soon!!
ReplyDeleteJackie
Hi Jackie, Oh please do take care for yourself - the pneumonia is the thing that worries me the most. We appreciate the prayers.
DeleteDiane
ReplyDeleteYou and yours will be in our hearts, minds and prayers.
Glad your children are home safe.
I remember your painting and I think you did a great job.
Myrna
Thanks Myrna - I was amazed at how they could take people who never even tried oil painting and in a short class have us make something that didn't look half bad! Thanks for the prayers.
DeleteYou and your dad are in my prayers. Take care of yourself, so you can take care of him...
ReplyDeleteThank you Debbie - I'll be heading down there in a few days when I am pretty sure that I won't spread any more germs!
DeletePrayers for both you and your dad. Just wanted to let you know someone is sending emails, Capadia Designs, but the email address is different than yours. That's how I was sure it wasn't you.
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie, Thank you for your prayers. The emails do come out from the capadiadesigns gmail address - they always have. Are you getting something other than my blog posts?
DeleteOh Diane, my heart just jumped when I read about your Dad. I've enjoyed sending him cards and would like to send him a Get Well card. Do I just send it to him apartment address? I'll add you both to my prayer list.
ReplyDeleteMary Ann

MaryAnn, You are the best card sender and I do appreciate the offer. The address is different, I'll try to send it to you as soon as I can. Thank you!
DeleteI hope you and your dad get better soon! I know how scary it can be to have an ailing parent! Can I send him a get better card? Let me know what address and I will make one for him ASAP!

ReplyDeleteThank you Cheryl - I appreciate your caring thoughts.
DeleteI have spent the last two days catching up on your blog from September through this post. Life has been crazy for several months. I'm glad I finally have the opportunity to read everything. Better late than never.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that you & you're father have been sick. I hope you both get well soon. I have luckily missed that flu although my entire family has been sick before Christmas. Take care and thank you so much for all your inspiration.

Oh my Priscilla! You have been doing a lot of reading - I hope you found some things that you liked! I hope all of your family is well by now.
Deletethe flu is rampant here in michigan as well. we're stocked up on food and supplies, and have no plans on going anywhere. trying as best we can to avoid this. best to your father! it's very hard on the elderly and very young.
ReplyDeleteHi Kat - that sounds like a good plan - stay safe and snug and I hope you will avoid any illness!
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your Dad. The flu this year is really bad. I am a lab tech at a local hospital and they are running us ragged running flu tests. I think this is one of the worst seasons I have ever seen and I have worked in this field since 1975.
ReplyDeleteJan Lynn - please take all the precautions you can so you don't catch this and thank you for the work that you do. It's hard to imagine how busy you must be right now!
DeleteWe are all praying for your speedy recovery. Flu is everywhere right now and we really have to be more conscious with our health.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sarah - everyone has to try really hard to keep this from spreading!
