Candle Holder Project Idea

I don't like to get the Christmas decorations out too early so this month I have my "Autumn/Thanksgiving" bits and pieces around the house.  I bought these votive or tealight holders quite a while ago (sorry, I don't have a source to give you).  

We have a windowsill over the kitchen sink and I like to put some sort of decoration there to keep it from filling up with random items (any horizontal surface is at risk in this house!).  They look rather boring all in a row so I tried a few different arrangements.

Turning the odd numbered holders at an angle makes the line a little longer so it fits the center window space nicely.

I added the sparkly garland behind the candleholders - the beads catch the light of the candles and make nice reflections in the window.

Every year when I put these out, I think that I should be able to make something similar.   I really like the contrast of the frosted and colored glass.

Even without candles, they can catch the daylight and brighten the space.

When the candles are added, the frosted and clear areas start to look really pretty.

As the dusk falls (so early now that we've turned the clocks back!), they make a nice glow.

When it is fully dark, the lights are reflected in the window.

So - do any of you have a plan for an easy way to make something like this?  I think I need to pull out the vinyl and etching cream and see what I can come up with.  If I save both the positive and negative areas of the cuts I could etch and then cover the etched areas and use some sort of glass paint to get the clear colors...

It's snowing here - and very cold.  I don't know what the people in the areas that still don't have power after the hurricane are doing.  The weather sure is giving us a hard time this fall!
