Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday!  While I was driving home yesterday, my phone started buzzing with early birthday wishes from Facebook friends.  I don't have any special plans for today other than regrouping after my trip.  The next couple of weeks will be very busy for us.

Tomorrow our older son and his wife will arrive in Boston, returning from their year in Spain and lots of traveling adventures.  They will be with us for a couple of weeks before they fly back to the West Coast to get resettled in the San Francisco area.  We're planning a trip to Cape Cod and several family get togethers while they are here.

Have you heard of a "Golden Birthday" - the birthday when you turn the age that is the date of your birthday.  For me it was the year I turned 10 on the 10th.  My Mom made it a special day by setting an alarm clock to ring every hour and every time the clock rang I got to unwrap a gift  (the gifts were small things like a bottle of nail polish, a hair band, a candy treat, etc.).

Well, this year my age matches the year I was born and I was wondering if there was a special name for that... If you know what that might be called, please tell me!

I hope you have a great day - have a piece of cake and celebrate with me!

Love your wreath but where in the world did you get that small birycle? Love it.

    Info about Golden Birthdays:
There are 2 different forms of *Golden Birthday *

The first is when you turn the same age as the date you were born. You turn 13 years old on the 13th of March for example, or 27 on the 27th.
The other *Golden Birthday" is when some turns 50.... and is known as a Golden Birthday as well, or a Champagne Birthday.
It may not seem like a big deal to us now, but when our life expectency was shorter, just living until we were 50 years old was a big deal. Now that we're living longer and people are routinely living to 100, hitting 50 is like getting to the halfway point - and worth the celebration.

"Joan Bramsch: It seems it's a clever marketing idea to sell her book, The Golden Birthday Book. It's an ebook and you can have one for $12.97 US. Very clever woman and making money off her idea, I'd say. She doesn't even have printing costs.

For over half a century the Bramsch family has celebrated each member's unique, once in a lifetime Golden BirthdayTM. It began with our own five children, but the idea soon spread to our extended family and the families of all our friends.
On December 5, 2006 The Golden Birthday Book was officially launched. Filled with fresh party ideas, exciting gift suggestions, and stunning photographs, it is sure to spark your imagination and help you create that once-in-a-lifetime celebration your friends and family will always remember."

  7. Happy Birthday! I hope it is full of all the wonderful things you enjoy most.
I am not sure about the age and year thing. It make me try to finger out your age though. LOL But I couldn't. Was when I turned 52 because I was born in 52 on the 2 of December. I am pretty sure we didn't do anything for my Golden Birthday. LOL
So nice that you have such wonderful memories to share.
    Have wonderful day!

  9. Happy birthday, Diane!

According to family lore, you're right that the "Golden Birthday" is when your age matches the date (day) of your birth -- e.g., when you turned 10 on July 10th.

The problem with that is, you may not remember your better birthday -- say if you were born on the 1st, it would be when you were 1 ... and the oldest you can be is 31 (unless born on the leap year and then you're pretty much screwed out of a Golden Birthday, as my ex-sister-in-law was).

But the BEST birthday is either PLATINUM, Diamond, or -- in my house -- CHAMPAGNE. Nowadays, that happens when you're older and wiser and can afford the BEST bottle of champagne! So I'm presuming you're 56, born in 1956 since I celebrated my 55/1955 Champagne birthday in 2010. You young'un!

So drink up -- cheers! Hope it's extraordinarily happy with family (welcome home, son!) and as beautiful as the wreath on your door!

    Fondly,

  15. I have never heard of a Golden Birthday but I sure would like to celebrate being 22 again! This year would have been my youngest's golden birthday last month on the 15th, bummer, that would have been fun. My other 2 are the 20th and 28th, still have time for them.

    Have a wonderful Birthday!

  21. Happy Birthday, Diane! I had never hear of a golden birthday before, but when I stopped to think about it, I figured that my birthday a month or so ago was my golden birthday, too! I turned 56 this year, and was born in 1956, so I'm figuring you and I must be the same age.

Hope "your" day is filled with all things wonderful!

  23. I was 21 on the 21st of September, almost 30 years ago now. We always just called it our "special" birthday. I didn't think about the birthday that matches your year of birth, but now I have another special birthday to look forward to.

My twins have to turn 98 to reach that kind of birthday (so good health to them!), and Scott's whizzed by when he was 1!

Happy birthday and enjoy W&K being in town! Scott enjoyed Uncle Steve Camp a lot.
