It's Saturday - What's New in the Garden?

Another Saturday and some more garden photos to share.  Today is predicted to be quite rainy but we will be busy painting and cleaning inside at our son's new apartment.  I grabbed the camera on Friday to catch a few photos of the Siberian Iris patch before the blooms are finished.

These irises, with their tall stems and thin spiky leaves are one of my favorite plants in the garden.

They bloom later than some of the other irises and they only last a week or so (less if we get a big storm!).

They don't have the "beard" that is on most of the other varieties in our garden,

In bright sunlight, the petals are almost iridescent.

Also new in the garden this week...

...a bearded iris with such a beautiful burgundy color...

...the Campanula  (bell flower) along the hillside...

...and our first day lilies are blooming by the garage.

I want to wish a very Happy Birthday to my father-in-law today.  We hope that we will be able to see him tonight (if we get all of the work done at the apartment!).  I did make him a card, but I don't want to share it until he sees it.

The predicted weather troubles have already moved our town library book sale to next weekend and an outdoor music festival that our son was going to perform in this weekend will now be held in July.

I hope you have a great weekend - maybe the weather will be nice where you live.

  1. Hi Diane, I love flowers however I know next to nothing about them or their names, so you are a very good teacher. I love your garden, your flowers are so beautiful. Please tell your father in law that someone in Canada (close to Ottawa) wishes him a very happy and fun birthday. I live fairly close to you so we are getting the same rainy weather here. Have a great day.

  2. I don't live close to you yet we are getting the same rainy weather. My Rhodies are beat to death: darn. I wait a year to enjoy their glory so don't appreciate the rain. Happy Birthday to your fil.

  3. Hi, Diane! Happy birthday to your FIL. Your garden photos are spectacular but I know they are nothing in comparison to the real things. Are those purple and blue irises Dutch or Japanese, by chance? My father used to grow bearded and Japanese varieties and those look very similar.
