Cutting Intricate Images

A lot of people have been writing to ask me to compare the cutting abilities of the Cricut machines and the Silhouette Cameo.  Some day soon I will try to do a full review.

I have been enjoying making my own extremely intricate designs for the Cameo and the cuts are fantastic.  In all fairness, I do have to say that I am able to get finely detailed cuts with the Cricut Expression as well.  I thought back to a couple of years ago when I made this "cupcake cage" using the Heritage cartridge with George (any cartridge with a rectangle or square can be substituted for George).  I was impressed by the detail of the cuts the Cricut made.

Without going into great length today - the difference for me is the amount of control and freedom I have with the Silhouette software to create any image I can think of.   I also am very happy with the near perfect tiny circles and regular scallops that the Cameo will cut.  However, this cupcake holder shows that the Cricut machines certainly can do finely detailed cuts, the lines are not as thin as those I cut with the Cameo, but they are about 1/10th of an inch - that's pretty thin!

If you'd like to see the original post and download the file, you will find them HERE.  I saved a Gypsy version of the file and uploaded it to share but I did not test cut the Gypsy file.  If you are using the Cricut Craft Room, you "should" be able to import the Gypsy file and use it (however, I can't promise this since I tried three times and could not get the Craft Room to open the file properly).  Remember, if you don't have George, just check the size and location of each rectangular shape and substitute a rectangle from a cartridge that is available to you (such as Craft Room Basics).

I have some exciting plans for next weekend - can you guess what I'll be doing?...
