Wednesday Workshop

Happy Wednesday!

Today I will be teaching a class for a group of Senior Citizens here in Concord.  I thought I'd share a little sneak peek at one of the projects.  We will be making May baskets and a card.

I had a busy day yesterday preparing all of the class kits.  I am not sure if the people who are coming have much crafting experience and I want to be sure that they can finish the projects in time for their luncheon.  I think it will be a hectic day so it's quite likely that I won't be able to post more photos and information about the projects until tomorrow or Friday.

Do you like to take classes where most of the items have been prepared for you or do you prefer to work with instructions and cut most of your own pieces?  I'll have to see how things go today - then I'll have a better idea for the next class.

I hope you have a great day!

  1. Good Luck today. What a blessing you will find you'll be getting. It's a real joyful experience to be present w/such people of Wisdom and grace. I'm sure as w/anything,
You'll encounter those who will want to use what u have brought, &
they who will want like you 2 just
create. Have loads of fun, and take
lots of process/progress/final project pictures. Lord they asked
    when did we feed clothe give U 2 drink,...when U did 4 the least of my people...may u continue 2 know Gods blessing, Oh & Ur's 2! PL&J

  2. Congrats to Renee!! Good luck with your class today. I had the pleasure of helping with a class of Seniors and it was wonderful. They are so sweet and kind. As for taking classes myself. I would have to say it doesn't matter if things are prepared or I follow instructions...I actually like to socialize more than create. I just like to visit with people and create at home in my studio.

  3. It depends on the time of the class. I like to do it all if I can and if is something I am learning how to do. If it is something will only do once than I like to have it all ready to go. I don't know if the teacher would ever know that. Have a wonderful time.

  4. I agree with Linda - it depends on how much time we have in the class. I like a mixture of both. Enjoy you class - I wish I was there too!! Many blessings!!

  5. If it's a 10 card class, 2 each and we only have two hours then I like to have the parts ready. I like dry and heat embossing myself. Sometimes when the card is extra difficult then it's not fun if you can't get it finished and have to complete it at home. I'd love to be able to take a class from you but that will never happen. We are on opposite coasts!

  6. Have a fun day. I've done classes where I've prepared most of it and I've done other classes where I did step-by-step, but it depends on your audience!

  7. Hope you had a fun day teaching your class.

As for taking or teaching classes, I do like having some of the items precut so it saves some time during the class. Just my 2 cents worth!

  8. I normally like to do things for myself from scratch, but I have worked with children and seniors and know that it is usually better to have most of the things ready to assemble with a little creativity left out for those who want to put their own stamp on things. Hope the day was sucessful.

  9. When I am teaching an inexperienced group, I usually prepare most pieces for my students. When I know they are experienced crafters, I like them to do most of the work, especially if they will learn by doing.
When I take classes I enjoy getting a lot accomplished if the instructor has done a lot of the prep work but I also like to do the steps myself if it will help me remember how to do the technique.

  11. I have to say that I like a combination of both! I enjoy classes where I learn by doing--if there is time to do it. But if time is limited, having precut items accompanied by instructions on how to do it at home is appreciated.
