Abstract Twinkle Card
Have you been following the Tim Holtz "12 tags of Christmas" series so far? The tags have all been lovely and inspiring with lots of techniques demonstrated. I am hoping to try at least some of them. If you haven't seen these yet, be sure to visit Tim's Blog - today will be Day 6.
I was thinking about the series coming up before we left for Spain and did some "messing around" with inks. I didn't take photos of all of the steps along the way but I thought I'd show you a card I made with one of the results of my experiments.
I started out with plain ivory cardstock cut to 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches and folded in half. I embossed the bottom of the card front with the word "twinkle" from the Cuttlebug All-in-One Twinkle set. (When I went to look up the link for this set I noticed some new Cuttlebug items that I hadn't seen before, click HERE to go to the general Cuttlebug page where you can see these - new quilling/rosette dies and companions sets for Fancy Frames and Word Collage were some of the new things I noticed).
I started with a full card and applied various colors of distress ink with a blending tool, sprayed it with water and added some Glimmer Mist. The card got pretty went and curled even after drying so I decided to cut the front panel to 4 x 5 1/4 inches and place it on a solid dark green card base.
I had inked in some dark green areas to look like evergreen trees and I added some stars at the tops of the trees and more gems stickers to represent stars in the sky.
I thought the little flower at the end of the flourish should have a red center, just to make it different from the stars in the sky and on the trees.
I rolled the cardstock a bit to try to flatten the curling and then used lots of strong adhesive to adhere it to the card base.
It is nearly impossible for me to capture the effect of the Glimmer Mist - it gives the entire card front a lovely sheen. The color I used is called "Sun Sisters" from Tattered Angels (this is my favorite color).
This was a different sort of card for me - I usually do more die cutting and very little inking. It was fun to try mixing and blending the colors and watching the reaction when I added some water in the spray.
Enabler Alert....
I promise I won't talk about the Blitsy site everyday but I just have to tell you that on Monday they added lots of LaBlanche stamps to the sale. These are the stamps I learned about in January at CHA - I had the chance to watch the artist color and emboss an image - here is a LINK to the old post.
The prices are about half of the regular price (some a little more and some a little less). If you haven't joined the free membership site yet, here is my link
After you join, you can refer your friends and family - go to the "invites" page to get your link and you may earn some credits to use for shopping on the site. Sales last for a week (while supplies last) and new items are posted on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 10 a.m. Central Time.
Monday was a mild day for December and we did get manage to get the large ornaments on the outdoor tree and the lights along the back fence. The Santas are on the mantle and it's starting to look a bit like Christmas around here!
Today is Nikolaustag - St. Nicholas Day. On the evening before - Nikolausabend - German children put out their boots in the hopes of finding treats from St. Nikolaus - our boys enjoyed this tradition when we lived in Germany. What's not to like about early extra presents for Christmas!

I love it! I have been enjoying Tim's tags as well. There certainly are a lot of talented people in this world!
ReplyDeleteDiane, I just discovered Blitsy, and I have to say, they really have great prices. I just received my first order from them today. I had ordered several of Tim Holtz distress inks and reinkers. Really good prices.

You are quite the artist. What a lovely card. Holiday greeting to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteThis turned out wonderfully, Diane. I love to do the "messing around" just find it hard to keep up, ha ha. Thanks for sharing your cool card ;- )
ReplyDeleteGreat job of messing around. If I were to do that it would certainly look like I messed around. I'm anxiously awaiting my Tim Holtz Seasonal Distress Ink order. I've been wanting those three inks and can't believe the price. Thank you for the referral.
ReplyDeleteI messed around with some ink the other day too but yours came out much better. I actually used a negative cut to ink my trees, and then masked with the tree cut for the background. Not bad but needs work.
ReplyDeleteYour card is really cool. The green areas definitely look like trees. Sometimes it's fun to just play with ink and see what happens.
ReplyDeleteDiane, your card is really lovely!
