Cards from CHA

One of the workshops I attended at CHA was sponsored by Hero Arts.  We made four cards to try different techniques.  This was one of my favorite classes because it was very well organized and we completed the projects without rushing through the steps.

This card used the "kiss" technique.  First we inked a damask background stamp ("Large Fabric Design") with yellow ink and a dotted background stamp ("Life of the Party Dots") with green ink.  Next, we placed the dotted stamp on the damask stamp, "kissing" the two surfaces so some of the ink transferred from the dotted stamp to the damask stamp.  Then we placed the white card directly on the stamp and applied even pressure to stamp the two color image on the card front.  We added two more stamps, a rectangular patterned stamp in green (from "Dots and Flowers") and a number of flowers in pink (from "Blossom Art") along the left side.

The "Thanks" stamp is from the "Find Joy" set.

The leaves were from the "Layered Flowers" set.  The two felt flowers had been stamped for us - we just cut them out.  They are also from the "Layered Flowers" set.

The next card was done on a kraft cardstock base.  The layer was already stamped with the thanks definition from the "Dictionary Greeting" set.  We inked it to give an antique look and then used markers in two shades of green to color a plant stamp from the "Delicate Leaf Clusters" set.

We all had different bits of lace to add along with flowers and pink pearls to complete the card.

The third card used my favorite of the techniques they taught us.  We took a blue distress ink pad and completely colored the layer with the circle punched out.  Then we inked the damask background stamp ("Large Fabric Design") with yellow and placed the inked layer directly on the stamp.  When we fist lifted the piece off the stamp the colors did not stand out very well but as the ink dried, a beautiful two-tone pattern was revealed.

The sentiment (from the "With Sympathy" set) was already stamped for us with Black StazOn ink on a piece of packaging from the stamp sets.  I love to recycle the packaging from my supplies  so I was happy to see that they had done this.  The plastic was then layered between the card and the patterned layer we had created.  We inked the large damask background stamp again with a lighter blue ink and placed the card on the stamp to  add pattern to the inside of the card.

We colored the bird quickly and easily by drawing blue ink from the tail to the center and yellow ink from the head to the center.  This produced a lovely gradient of color.  One tip we were given was that when you hand cut out birds you always cut off their legs!  To finish the card, we tied two strands of twine and one of ribbon together and placed the bow beneath the bird.  A few pearls added the finishing touch.

The fourth and final card was  a bit different.  The card front was cut in half.  The image (from "Dots and Flowers") was already stamped and embossed with white powder.  We ran an inkpad over the entire image to color it blue.  Then we intensified the blue color in the flower shapes and used a marker to color the leaf shapes.  The image was mounted on a dark green piece of cardstock and then centered on the front card flap.  A few pearls for the centers finished off the decorative panel.

Inside we stamped a "Thank You" from the "Luscious Frames" set and added a few more flowers from the "Dots and Flowers" set.

I really like this stamped image but I didn't care for the style of this card as much as some - it seemed a bit awkward to me with the center part exposed.

I hope you enjoyed seeing these cards.  The Hero Arts designers were great instructors and I enjoyed working with their card designs.  We were given a stamps in a combined teaching set with a few from the various sets I mentioned.  I will definitely have to go buy the complete sets for a few of them!
