Make and Take box

I am heading home from LA - it looks like my flight will not be canceled after all.  I hope the weather conditions are OK in Boston.  I am on the overnight flight so I will be a bit mixed up on time for a few days.  I thought I make a quick post to show you one of the things I made at CHA.  When I get home and have a chance to catch my breath I will do  some posts to share other projects I did this week.

There are various workshops put on for CHA attendees and these generally involve doing projects and learning techniques to show off the latest and the greatest that a particular company has to offer.  There are also demonstrations and projects at many of the booths.  These can be simple or quite elaborate.  I did not get a chance to do a lot of them but I saw many that my fellow team members made and I was quite impressed.

The projects at the ProvoCraft booth were very nice.  There were classes for elaborate projects and two "make and take" tables for simpler projects and these varied each day.  This lovely box was one of the projects.  For the "make and takes" the projects are kitted with the preliminary work finished (in this case, painting the box) and the pieces cut to size for you.  The assembly of the projects takes 20 minutes or so and you often have to wait in line but it is fun to talk to others and find out what they have discovered at the show.

We made these crumpled flowers by misting the pre-cut flower shapes and squashing them with our hands.  They are held together with a brad and then we added a gem for a lovely sparkly center.  I will probably try to make more of these at home so I can post some step by step photos but they are simple to do.  They do require some drying time.

We used a Cuttlebug border folder to emboss the pink strips on the bottom of the box.  The embossing makes the project much prettier for a very small additional effort.  There are new Cuttlebug options that will allow a lot more variety in your projects and I'll try to post more about this new system when I am home.  You do not need a new machine - just the new plate to hold the movable embossing pieces and it isn't very expensive.

The Hollywood sign was visible from our roof deck - it was pretty far away but exciting to see!

I'll be leaving for the airport shortly - it has been a great trip and I have learned a lot.  I am eager to get home, settle in and try some of the new things I have seen.  I am also curious to see just how high the snow is by now!

Thanks for sharing in my adventure  and stay safe and warm if you are in one of the snowy places!

  2. Safe travels, Diane. Looking forward to your terrific tutorials to show us all you learned at CHA. I saw some prelim info on the new Cuttlebug system and it looks promising. I especially liked how it worked on the box you did at the Make & Take.

  10. That's really pretty! I love the look of the flower.

Do you know what cut the black & white shape is behind the flower? What cart it's from? It's kind of like one of my favorite nesties.

  13. That is a very pretty box! I hope you had fun. Seems like most of the country got bashed by this storm but here (in Buffalo) where everyone expects huge snowfalls...we got almost nothing! About a total of 7" over the 2 days and no wind.
