First Day at Winter CHA

Welcome to Hollywood!  We had a very busy day but did manage to meet up with "Marilyn" and have this photo taken Friday evening.  Enfys was delayed on her journey from England due to weather conditions so she had to stay in Houston Thursday night.  She arrived just in time for the second session of workshops.

After leaving a very snowy New England (the snow is getting close to the top rail of the deck), it was a wonderful treat to see the palm trees in Los Angeles.

The change in temperature is amazing - so pleasant and warm (although the Australians think it cold having come here from their summer).

We arrived bright and early for a day of workshops and seminars.

Once we had our badges and tickets there was time for a cup of coffee before we got busy learning about all sorts of products.

Mandy and I were both in the Tattered Angels class and had a lot of fun learning how to use the glimmer mist, chalkboard and glam products for all sorts of great effects.

It was very messy but fun and we made lots of samples.  I will post more photos once I get everything organized.  The classes actually move so fast that it is difficult to take photos during the process but I'll show you some of our finished items as soon as I can.

Enfys, Jane and I all did a class with Hero Arts with lots of stamping techniques.  For this card we inked a large damask stamp with Scattered Straw Distress ink and then inked another large dotted stamp with Broken China Distress ink.  Then we "kissed" the dotted stamp to the damask stamp to transfer the ink and placed the card on top of the stamp to get this two toned image.  All sorts of interesting combinations are possible with this technique.

Resist papers and resist with embossing are very popular.  This sample was embossed with white powder and colored with distress inks.  The blue color was deepened in the flowers and green markers were used to color the leaves.  The stamp is another Hero Arts stamp.  Each class includes some items to take home and this stamp was one of them - I am sure that you'll see it again on my blog since I particularly liked this one!

There are products for all sorts of hobbies here - this was one of the ones featured as an innovative new product.  It is a pin dispenser - so much easier than picking them up from a pile! (As a sometime quilter, I really liked this one!).

The Yudu Card Shop is also featured as an innovative product and it was fun to see how it can print on ribbon.  There were a number of premade screens and some had a group of sentiments which can be taped so you print only one phrase on your project.  I'll look forward to seeing more of this on Saturday - it really is simple and small when compared to the large original Yudu (but I am still thinking about getting the larger one...).

The full show begins Saturday and there are also classes and seminars throughout the show.  I will try to get around to see as much as possible tomorrow but the hall is enormous so it will probably take more than one day!
