"Fun" Halloween Layout made with Creative Charms Vintage Kit of the Month

Here is the second project I did with the Creative Charms Halloween Vintage Kit of the Month.  Are you surprised to see a scrapbook page(!)  I started using a Cricut to help with my scrapbooks and over the past year or two I have done more and more cards and other projects and very few pages.  I am going to try once again to even up the balance of projects.

I wanted to use the rest of the HalloweenVintage Frame Stickers and I thought for a while about the various cartridges I could use. There are a lot of Halloween themed cartridge that have been released in the past year but I went for an "oldie but goodie" - Accent Essentials.

I used this image from Accent Essentials.  It is designed to layer with a slightly larger piece and create the effect of a ring of circles.

One of the features I really like in Design Studio is the color previews..  This makes it easy to "audtition" various color combinations without wasting your paper.  I tried the yellow on top first...

..and then the orange.  I decided I liked the second look better for my project.

I made a classic "rookie" error (long story) and forgot to check the size of the bottom layer before cutting - it looked fine at a glance but the image was just slightly off the line and two of the edges did not cut completely.

Fortunately the rounded corners were cut so I could trim off the extra bits and make the project without cutting another sheet of paper.  I used my newer Creative Memories 12 inch Rotary Trimmer to make this cut because you can tell precisely where the cut will be by looking at the line in the cutting mat and get a smooth and even result when matching to an existing cut.

I fixed the file without making the page smaller.  When you use Design Studio you can sometimes "squeeze" in a cut that is a bit larger than the machine will allow when you use the keypad.  The "fit to page" option calculated the maximum for this cut to be 10 3/4 inches.  So...lesson learned (or relearned) - always remember to size your shadow or lower layer first!

The "leftovers" from the cuts for my page include this ring of circles and layers and can be used for another page (which you may see very soon!).

I had originally planned to use the speckled "solid" sides of the paper but since these were double sided papers (K and Company, Halloween Whimsy, Jen Yanok) I tried a few variations.

The opposite side of the orange paper had this nice spider web design.  Isn't it interesting how the circle fits in?

I thought it might be a bit too busy so I flipped the center over.  Technically the design is not completely symmetrical but the fit was "good enough" so I kept it his way.

I started to play around with the placement of the Vintage Frames - If you wanted to use the entire set you could make a pattern around the ring.

I thought it would be fun to punch out tiny head shots of children in their costumes and fit those in the openings as well.

I wanted to use one of the Halloween Twinkle Stickers.  These come on a clear acetate sheet so I cut them apart and then I could see how they would look in various positions.

I ended up choosing the "Fun" stickers and placed them in the top right corner.

I decided to make this a three photo layout and set up a mat for one 4 x 6 photo (4 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch mat) and two 3 x 4 photos (3 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch mat).  I used some of the polka dot ribbon from the kit which can help hold the photos in place (while looking cute!).  The partial black circles above each photo will work for the names or small captions written in white ink.

A few gradient gem stickers line up to add some sparkle in the center - more spots and dots and circles.  I rounded the edges of the photo mats to match the large background pieces.

The Halloween Vintage Kit of the Month is $14.99 and includes many more items - I'll be able to do several more projects before I come close to using it all up!

Be sure to stop by the Creative Charms Blog to see what some of the design team members have been making - we have some amazing Design Team members and there is always something fun to see!

You don't need Design Studio to make this layout.  If you don't mind have the page a bit smaller you can cut the two layers at 10 3/4 inches on the Expression.  If you would like to download my file to see how "tight" the fit is for the shadow layer you can download with this link.

Whew!  Two down, one to go.  I think I will leave the third Creative Charms project for tomorrow  I have an MRI scheduled for tonight to try to get the pain in my leg and back sorted out and I think I may need an early night.  Wish me luck  - I am not excited about being inside the MRI machine.  I hope that  I can finally get some relief if they can figure out the cause of the pain!
