Fall Wheelbarrow Card

The weather is definitely getting cooler and it is getting dark much earlier - I guess that means Fall is here!  While thinking about the changing seasons I decided to make a "Fall" card and remembered the wheelbarrow full of leaves on the Cheerful Seasons cartridge.

The wheelbarrow cut has a shadow and several layers.  These are located on the main keypad and the layer feature.

I set the size at three inches and then placed the cuts in each quadrant of the 12 x 12 mat.

This makes it simple to place the colors you have chosen in each section of the mat and avoid running into the "uncuttable" zone at the edges of the mat.

I used various shades of Core'dinations cardstock.  There are lots of tiny pieces when you cut the wheelbarrow at this size and I used multi-cut 2 to make sure I got clean cuts.

It was a little tricky to choose colors.   Some of the leaves are the same color as the wheelbarrow.  Whenever I am doing a complicated layered cut I first assemble the pieces without adhesive to see how the colors work.  I thought this looked a bit confusing so I cut another wheelbarrow layer in a brighter yellow to add more contrasting colors in the leaves.

I trimmed the yellow leaves from the wheelbarrow and adhered them on top of the original cut.  It is easy to trim along the straight line of the barrow.

I continued to add leaves until the barrow was full.  In some cases it is easier to put the adhesive on the main image and then add the tiny leaves on top of the base layer.

I did end up turning a few leaves in different directions for my "interpretation" of the original design!  Next I auditioned two version of the word "Fall" from the cartridge.

There is a bold sans serif version and a script style word on the base and shift of the CheerfulFont3 special feature.  I liked the script version better.

I made my card base from some Bazzill textured cardstock in a rust shade.  The green dotted layer is from the Prima "First Blush" mat stack.  I don't usually use patterned papers for the lower mat layer on a card but I really liked the colors of this paper from the Autumn Splendor mat stack from Making Memories (also found on sale last year).

These mats were 4 x 6 inches so I simply trimmed off a 3/4 inch strip from one end for a 5 1/4 x 4 inch mat.  The green dotted layer is 3 3/4 x 5 inches.

I used my friend Joy's trick for the inside of the card - I just added the strip I had trimmed to the side to dress up the inside a bit and coordinate it with the card front.  This cardstock is light enough to use a dark pen for the message.

I adhered the "fall" in the lower right corner of the card and used foam squares to lift the assembled wheelbarrow cut for a 3D effect.

I thought the leaves were lacking something - they just weren't very appealing for some reason.  Then I realized that the answer was sitting on my craft island...a jar of Golden Rod Stickles.

The Stickles were just the thing to add some life to the card!

Here is another view of  the final card. It can be used for a "thinking of you" note or maybe an invitation to come jump in the leaves!

Cheerful Seasons is one of the two Creative Memories exclusive cartridges.  These must be purchased through a Creative Memories consultant.  I am a consultant and, if you do not have already have a consultant, I would be happy to help you.  Here is a LINK to the page on my personal website where you can order the cartridges.  They are delivered to you directly via UPS.

I do have to mention that today is International "Talk like a Pirate Day" - it you are not familiar with this "holiday" here is a LINK to the official website.  I always remember the date because it is my nephew's birthday - Happy Birthday J!
