The Simplest of Cards....from a favorite cartridge

One of my all time favorite Cricut cartridges is the A Child's Year cartridge.  It is one of the truly "full" cartridges with an image on every keypad position.  There is a nice font, a wide assortment of cards and toppers, monogram letters in scalloped ovals and balloons, icon images for every season and, of course, all of the charming silhouettes.

All of the items in this photo were made from images on a single key (with the addition of the welded phrase).

I was asked to preview this cartridge when it first came out and you can find my original review HERE and some of the first sample cuts I made HERE, HERE and HERE.

I also used the cartridge for this lampshade project - the full post is HERE.

At the time I was previewing the cartridge, the updates to Design Studio were not usually made in time to coordinate with cartridges being released so I did lots of trial cuts in various sizes.  They were not all made into projects and ... guess what! ... I found some of them while continuing the excavation of the horizontal surfaces in my craftroom.

The images were cut in some atypical colors - the conventional choice for the silhouettes would be dark colors.  I decided to make a few quick cards that would use these extra cuts.  A sentiment could be stamped on the card if you wanted to add one but, as they are, they are nice for a quick note.  A set of these would be fast to put together and make a sweet gift.

I used darker cardstock with a very small pattern as the layer for the A2 card.  I cut them a bit larger than my usual A2 card layer at 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 inches so there is just a thin white border around the card.  The backgrounds are both from the DCWV Garden Party stack.

Do you have an all time favorite cartridge?

Of the ones I own, for font, my favorite cartridge is Storybook, and for images, I would have to say Create a Critter.

  5. So cute, I love ACY also, but I must say my favorite is George. And that's because I use it with every card I make. I have DS and the shapes on George are my starting blocks for every card I make. Wasted alot of paper before I did it this way!

  15. Beautiful work! That lampshade is just gorgeous!! I remember reading that review before. I don't have A Child's Year and haven't even considered putting it on my wish list. Perhaps I should give it a second glance based on your comments and those of other followers.
As for my favourite - I change with the times, but currently it is Ashlyn's Alphabet. There are lots of little hidden treasures on there.

  16. I have been wanting to get ACY but just haven't yet. You make me want it more. I also like that you showede that there are no wrong cuts. If something you cut doen't work for the project you are working on now just file it and sooner or later it will wpork for something else. It is kinda like when I took cake decorating classes. We would make a bunch of flowers. When you would do a cake use your best 3 flowers, next cake use your next 3 best flowers. You always had the best flowers that way and used them all up.
