I wanted to share a few photos of our irises. They are one of my favorite flowers and ours have been very pretty this year.
This large clump of purple irises just started blooming last week. These came from my husband's grandparent's former home and have done well in the front of our house where it is very sunny.
The flowers are huge and they have a sort of grape scent.
I decided to get a little "artsy" with my photo editing with this very close up view.
On the other side of the front walk we have these blue and white irises which bloom earlier than the deep purple variety.
In this straight down view you can see the wonderful effect of the contrasting colors.
The white irises are in the side bed which was intended to be an all white garden but a few "volunteer" flowers in other colors have appeared and we don't want to move them! These are the Japanese irises without a beard.
These are (obviously) not iris - I just thought the light coming through the foliage was so pretty. The hostas are also in the "white" garden. I have to give credit where it is due and say that my husband is the gardener and I admire and photograph the flowers but don't do much digging!
If you'd like to see more iris photos, here is a LINK to a post from last year where I shared some photos of irises growing in the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair, New Jersey. If you live in Northern New Jersey this garden is well worth a visit.
I had a busy weekend so I haven't had a lot of time to experiment with the update to Design Studio. There is some progress with a new ability to select a group of items and move them together but unfortunately, you can't copy and paste the entire group and if you resize the group the items do not stay in the same relative positions so you need to move them individually to complete the resized design.
You also need to pay very close attention to the location of your cursor. It will no longer automatically return to the left side when you reach the edge of the mat. You can double click on the mat to place the cursor or use your X and Y values to move a shape into the mat area. It is easy to "lose" objects in the areas that can't be seen on your screen.
I will spend some time tomorrow putting together some examples to show you the changes. It looks like a small step in the direction of true "grouping" but right now it is basically a "select all" feature with the ability to apply the same changes to each item selected at the same time (rotate, skew, etc.). Unfortunately, flipped items do not stay flipped when you use the new feature so you have to reflip after resizing and realigning.

The flowers are lovely! Thanks for all of your efforts to educate us on the DS. I would be lost without your help.
ReplyDeleteLovely flowers! Wonder if those will grow in MN? They are so pretty! Especially that deep purple one!
ReplyDeleteLove the new design of your blog! How fitting for someone who grows such beautiful flowers! Thanks so much for sharing the photos! Great way to start the week!
ReplyDeleteThose photos are beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to learning more about the DS update. I'm especially interested in the "select all" feature - even if there are a few bugs. I flip items all the time though, so I imagine I'll continue to experience some frustration with the program!
Your flowers are gorgeous. TFS. I love all the tips and ideas for the DS and the updates.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Irises. I'm glad someone is getting sunshine. I'm beginning to believe it will never stop raining here. Thanks for the sunshine you provide.
ReplyDeleteYour photography is outstanding. Your husbands hard work sure makes your yard a showpiece.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous flowers you photograph! I love Irises so it was an extra reward to look at yours this morning.
ReplyDeleteMy dad used to grow a lot of irises on his acreage in SE MN. I would have loved to have some of those irises now. I moved to FL from MN & didn't have a place to plant them. I don't know if they would have grown in that different of a climate. Thanks for the memories and the lovely flower shots. I love to take pics of flowers also.
ReplyDeleteYou must have an award winning yard. Those irises are breath taking! Thanks for sharing such beauty with us.

I love iris also and have several different ones in my yard. A couple of my fellow master gardener friends are also members of the local iris society and are iris judges and go to iris competitions all around the country. I would be lost without your help with DS. Thanks for all you share with us.
ReplyDeleteI especially love the blue/white combination. They are lovely. I will have to look for some to join the other colors I have.
ReplyDeleteYour camera does an amazing job with the colors! Lovely!
