Cheery Hello Card
This cheery hello card was made because of a "mistake." I enjoy creating new things from "mistakes" - they often end up being more interesting than the original plan!
When I made the card to go along with my cupcake holder, I wanted a dark pink layer to set off the checked background paper. (Here is a LINK to the original cupcake holder post)
I have been showing the "hidden assets" that are produced by punching shapes from your card layers. By doing this you lighten the card and create extras for other projects. For the cupcake card I punched out some flowers before adhering the layers.
I actually started punching flowers from this pink piece of cardstock and realized that I had grabbed a punch that was a "pop-up" punch so it didn't separate from the layer - oops! I put that piece of cardstock aside and made the cupcake card but then set about figuring a way to use this piece as well. I punched out a few more butterflies and then decided to create a top layer that would accommodate the pop-up flower. I used the same checked paper and punched out a scalloped circle in the lower right corner. (I checked to be sure that the flower would be within the punched scallop - I liked the off center positioning of the pop-up).
I adhered the two layers and added some white pen stitching around the scalloped circle. I wanted to add a bit more "punch" to the pop-up flower so I looked for something to add to the hole in the center.
I had this set of embellishments from Creative Charms and I thought the small brad would be perfect for the center (here is a LINK to the page on their site).
I was careful to keep the back aligned so the metal pieces would not show though the openings.
Here is the close view after I added the brad. I think it is a perfect accent with the white center and scalloped flower.
I added some wide yellow grosgrain ribbon at the top of the card. Now all I needed was a sentiment.
I chose the "hello" from the Cuttlebug A2 Combo "Everyday Greetings" (I use that one a lot!) and cut it from orange glitter cardstock.
The final card is simple but with a bit of a twist - and I am happy that I was able to "redeem" my mistake!
I hope you had a lovely Easter. We went to the sunrise service and then joined the rest of the extended family for the big egg hunt hosted by my brother and sister-in-law. There are still a lot of flooded areas but the weather was sunny and hot (nearly 80)!
Thank you for the "hidden assets" comment!!! LOL I'm with you! I have to show this to my friend that thinks I am "el chep-o" for doing such things!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your work!
I just left you a message and I don't see it....lost in cyberspace. I am new to your blog and love it!!! I was browsing and came across your IKEA movable counter/storage. I am about to purchase some of the same and would like to know if you took a picture of the counter. I too have a very handy ex-husband and would like to show him what your husband made (if the measurements are ok with my limited space) so that I can ask him to make me something similar?
ReplyDeleteLove this! What a great combination of ideas and tools. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is a "Cheery Deary" card. I had heard there were no mistakes just opportunities for embellishments, but you take it one step further. This paper just grabs me! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAdorable card Diane! I really love how you take "mistakes" and turn them into something creative and lovely!!! To me..that is talent. I still need to work on the matte situation by punching out pieces before using the matte as a layer. I think I get so caught up in the card I'm making, I forget! LOL
ReplyDeleteHave a great day Diane!!!!
Great card for a "mistake"! Amazing creativity to be able to come up with such a great idea from something that went wrong in the beginning. Love the bright coloured papers and that brad sets off the little pop-up flower beautifully. Thanks again for another great card!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your "goofs". Thank you for sharing. I do believe that everything happens for a reason. This card is proof. It will definitely bring a smile to the reciever.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty "mistake"! Love the simplicity of the card.
ReplyDeleteWonderful card.
ReplyDeletePlus, I'm loving the idea that many of your cards have little hidden secrets.
