I tried out my super simple card sketch and found that I could make a card in less than five minutes. It is very easy when you work from a plan.
For this card I used these beautiful sparkled flowers from Creative Charms. Here is a LINK to the page where you can see them on the Creative Charms website.
The sentiment is cut with the "With Gratitude" Cuttlebug embossing and die set. I first cut the words in cardstock in the same shade of lilac as the small squares. To add a bit more sparkle, I cut the phrase again in glitter cardstock.
I layered the glittered sentiment on top of the plain cardstock, offsetting it slightly lower and to the right. This is a good way to work with words that don't have a shadow available on a Cricut cartridge as well. By offsetting the words you get a "sun shadow" effect and still get the added detail that conventional layers would give you.
The view from above shows the extra dimension added by the layers. I attached the sparkled flowers with glue dots. Be sure to keep track of the tiny dot for the "i." I put a dot of glue on the card and then carefully place the dot in the right spot.
Here is one more view of the card. It is very simple which allows the beautiful flowers to stand out.
I will be sharing some more embellishments from Creative Charms - they have asked me to do some designs for them and have provided me with some lovely samples to work with.
The butterfly brads I used for this card, also came from Creative Charms. Here is a LINK to the post about this card.
I have a question for you... If you received a card with these flowers and you didn't want to save the card, would you take the flowers off before recycling the card so you could use them again? Just curious....
That is a beautiful card. To answer your question, first of all, I would save the card (I save EVERYTHING.) And that said, if I didn't save the card I would save the embellishments.
ReplyDeletethanks for more great inspiration.
First I would SAVE the card, but yes, if I wasn't going to save it I would take the flowers off...all of us scrap bookers are always on the look out for embellishments!
ReplyDeleteI WOULD save the flowers...BUT I've never thrown away anyone's hand-made card! I have been known to pull off and save bling from store-bought cards, however :)
ReplyDeleteLove the card...so cute but elegant. And yes,I would take the flowers off. I think they are worth recycling. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI save cards that I get, but eventually cut them up, so yes I would save the flowers.
ReplyDeleteVery nice card, yes it's simple but quite elegant. And to answer your question yes i would remove the butterflies for future use, now that I make cards myself. Would have never done so in the past. TFS
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm trying to do is work at getting the clutter out. So I'm starting to take the cards I receive and scan (if possible) or take a picture of them (including the inside. I would definitely take the embellishment off and also see what else I could use on another card. That way I have the best of both worlds.
ReplyDeleteLovely card. Simple and elegant.
ReplyDeleteI would save the flowers to use on another card.
Definitely save the flowers!!!

If I didn't save the card, I would definitely save the flowers.
ReplyDeleteI would save the card, for a long time. I make a lot of cards for others, but never seem to get any, so if I did, I'd save it. And,I would pull the embellies off to use at a later time, if for some fluke, I was going to throw out the card.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane -- the cards are lovely. I would absolutely save the embellishments. I find that I am taking things off old Cristmas cards and reusing pretty Christmas cards for cutting letters with my Cricut. Very green :) Now that would be a good challenge: a recycled ATC or card....
ReplyDeletehad to laugh at your question. oh yes, i've picked away at cards i've saved for some time and used every pc that was salvageable. always have. i'm a recycler by nature.

Thank you for all the help and ideas that you give us. I certainly would save those butterflies and most likely, I would save the entire card. I probably save too many as I have a couple of boxes of cards, but, oh well, what else can a cardmaker do.
ReplyDeleteDiane,
ReplyDeleteMay I use this sketch as a challenge on www.disboards.com? Please email me and let me know.
PS - I love it!
Thank you!

Yes!!! I really would save teh whole card, but if something happened and I was not able to save the whole thing, the flowers would be saved for certain. I love these embellishments, thank you for showing us these flowers and the butterflies previous to them. I appreciate that you tell us where they are made and a link- that is so kind and thoughtful- I always look at things and think that would be perfect for.... and then can not find it again. Thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteIt is fine for you to use the sketch. Thank you for asking. I emailed you a copy that has my name and blog address included.
I'll have to be sure to check on the results of the challenge.
Diane
I would definitely save any charms, cute brads, etc I got on a I card I receive. It's a great way to recycle and help everyone get more for their money.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty card....I would most likely save it, but if I didn't I would certainly save the flowers. DorisB
ReplyDeleteI would definitely reuse those flowers!
ReplyDeleteDiane, these cards are beautiful. I also tend to save everything - not very practical I must admit, as I also tend to forget where I put those items. Yes, I would definitely save the flowers, etc.

I would probably save the whole card. The inside sentiment could be cut & placed inside another card. The front could be trimmed down to fit as a front to a new card. You could use the words & cut a label with Nestibilities to put on another card. You could do the same with the 3 decorative squares. Keep the card to remember the design to build another card with. The scraps of colored paper could be used. All sorts of uses. I find myself saving too much; ie: cereal boxes for chipboard. I am getting to be a packrat. Hopefully, not like the "hoarders" TV show. LOL!
