The Heritage cartridge has many charming and realistic shapes. One of the first items I cut was this tea set.
In the screen shot above you can see the location of the shape and shadow (to cut the shadow you need to use the lower right feature key).
I cut the shape at 3 inches on two sided paper. To cut the shadow in a contrasting color, I simply flipped the image so that the right side would be the opposite side of the paper. I did not alter the shape at all so you can make this card without Design Studio if you have the "flip" function on your machine.
After cutting, I decided that I didn't like the top side and I found a different paper to use. The paper had a large floral pattern and I placed it under the offcut of the tea set so I could put the pattern exactly where I wanted it. Then I removed the first sheet of paper and loaded the paper to cut the shape again. This will work if the item you are duplicating is the first thing you cut with your machine when you are using it freestanding. (You can also do this if you take note of the position of the blade at the start of the cut and move it back to that position). With Design Studio, the cut will be in the same place on the mat each time. There could be a slight variation due to differences in loading the mat in either case.
Here are all of the pieces for my card. The tea set cut and shadow, an A2 ivory card (8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches folded in half), a mat that matches the shadow cut at 4 x 5.25 inches and a second piece of ivory card cut at 3.75 x 5 inches. The ivory card was embossed with the "Victoria" Cuttlebug folder.
I tried the position of the tea set on the embossed piece - first turning it in one direction....
and then the other. In the second direction the embossing lined up nicely with the cut to give the impression of steam coming from the spout!
Here you can see the card assembled. I wanted to emphasize the embossing so... (I imagine you can guess what is coming next!...)
I added some Stickles glitter glue in "Star Dust."
Here is one more view of the final card. The floral pattern on the tea set reminds me of the chintz china that is a popular collector's item.
NOTE for readers who want to send cards for my neighbors who lost their home in a fire:
I am having trouble keeping up with emails since I have been spending nearly all of my time helping our neighbors and away from my computer. If you would like to send cards here is the information: The parents are Blair and Lori, there is a little girl (5) Cailean, a little boy (3) Ewen and baby twin girls born in August (Emma and Claire). Cailean loves typical little girl things, pink and purple, Disney princesses and fairies. Ewen likes the "Cars" characters (particularly Lightning McQueen) and Toy Story (Woody and Buzz Lightyear). It is probably best to send the cards to me and I will hand deliver them. Here is my address: Diane Campbell Payne, 110 Partridge Lane, Concord MA 01742. Thank you all for your messages of support.
You are so creative. This card is absolutely gorgeous. I love how you played on the embossed image with the placement and the stickles, and I love this cut image. I have the cart and have not cut this shape yet. Now, I will be definitely.
ReplyDeleteI never thought of flipping an image on double sided paper for the shadow. DUH! You are too good!
