Two weeks from tomorrow....

....I will be on a plane on my way to London and then flying on to Italy the next morning! Many of you know that our family lived overseas for eight years - first in Germany and then in England. The thousands of photos from those years are one of the reasons I became interested in scrapbooking. We made many friends during those years - as an ex-pat you bond quickly with people since everyone knows that it is likely they will be moving on in a year or two.

While living in England, we took a vacation to Tuscany and stayed near Lucca - a beautiful and very old walled town.

We stayed at this old farmhouse and had a wonderful time.

Four years ago, we returned to visit Italy after our older son finished his summer studies at Humboldt University in Berlin. We returned to Lucca and visited American friends who have "retired" to this area.

They love the life there and have olive trees in the garden along with this great "forno" for making fabulous homemade pizzas and bread!

I am telling you about our trip not to make you envious but because I have a bit of a dilemma. In January, I made a personal resolution to post on my blog every day this year and so far I have been able to stick to this commitment without missing a single day. It was my "take" on the Project 365 idea.

I have posted from various trips within the USA, but I am not sure if I will be able to keep up from overseas - and I think I need a bit of a vacation! I am even considering leaving my laptop home (gasp!) but, after eight full months, I am reluctant to give up on my posting resolution.

So, here is what I think I will do...

Many of you write to me and tell me how much you enjoy getting the feed emails each and every morning - you never know what I will post and enjoy the surprise factor! I started the blog for sharing Cricut Design Studio files but it has evolved over the last year and a half and posts can be about almost anything (but usually have something to do with crafts).

I think that I can set up a series of posts to publish automatically while I am away so you won't miss your morning email. I will probably be able to access the internet from time to time, but I am not taking a Cricut with me to make new projects while I am away. (I wonder if they have Cricuts in Italy - I will definitely be on the lookout for interesting papers).

I probably won't be able to edit and upload photos from the trip so be prepared for a "travelogue" post when I get back. On our last trip I had camera problems so I don't have many photos from that trip. I plan to make up for this by taking lots of photos with my digital SLR (Nikon D40) that is very reliable and takes much better photos.

I think this compromise will work and I can still keep my record of daily posts going even though they have been "pre-posted." If you have any thoughts or ideas about this, please leave a comment to let me know.

One other note - a few people have written to me to say that they are no longer getting the emails. When I check the subscriber list I still see them listed as active so I have no idea what is causing the problem and I can't seem to do anything to fix it - it may have something to do with the internet or email service that you are using. As an alternative, you can sign up to be a "follower" and then the posts will appear on your Google dashboard reading list.

  1. I would miss your morning posts but I do believe you are entitled to a vacation. We could always go back and re-read posts from earlier this year. Take it easy. Have a great time. Worry about which restaurant to visit next, or if you have enough memory for those thousands of pictures you will be taking, instead of whether this blog has a new post.

  3. I too enjoy your daily posts. But I agree - enjoy your vacation and don't give a second thought to anyone back home who has to miss a few posts! If it's important to YOU to keep up your daily posts, then posting ahead is a wonderful idea. Otherwise, we'll look forward to your beautiful photos and stories when you return!

  4. This is my first post, since I recently found you, and love that you post "whatever" daily (long and short posts!). However, I believe we are all entitled to a vacation and I'm sure your Followers won't mind you not posting for a short period of time. It will just make us appreciate you that much more when you return! Have a wonderful vacation.

  5. Hello Diane! I loved looking at all these photos...and the outdoor pizza! Oh my! Congrats on your upcoming vacation! And I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to take your laptop! Although I would miss checking in on you daily, knowing you are off enjoying a well deserved vacation is comforting! You have given us so much over this year and it is time we give back and let you ENJOY your time away! Take care kiddo and know we will all be here anxiously awaiting your return...with fresh ideas, and lots of pics!! Heck, that is probably the ONLY way I will ever see the Italy and London...through your eyes. :) Thanks for all you do for us!

    Hugs!

  8. Diane! I love your European pictures that you posted today! I can't wait to see what you come back with after your trip! I often schedule posts and it works out pretty well. Just be sure to use the "post options" button to set your date and then hit "publish" after that so it gets scheduled. You probably already knew that but I've had trouble before and didn't want you to have it also! I have been enjoying your cards so much (LOVE the tri-shutter!)!! Have a wonderful vacation!

    Hugs, Joy

I too think you deserve a vacation. Your blog is in my top three for daily checking... but I will manage for two weeks (as will everyone else) knowing that you are having a wonderful trip! Don't stress if you do not get your Pre-posts done.

I hope you have a lovely trip and look forward to hearing about it when you return!!!!

  11. I think you should not worry about this and just tell everyone "see ya in two weeks".

We would all be waiting for you and looking forward to your return.

You have given us enough ideas to work on while you are gone.

Love Italy, been there and would love to go back again. I've also been to England, and want to go back. So much to see, so much to enjoy!
