A Card with a Punch

A little while ago I got a new Martha Stewart cosmos pop-up punch - the type that punches through the paper leaving partially cut petals that you lift up for a 3D effect (here is a LINK to the post showing the punch).

I made this test strip of punches and left it sitting on my craft island.  Last week,  it just happened to end up next to some paper from the K & Co. "Wild Saffron" stack that I was using with the huge set of embellishments I found at the Tuesday Morning store (here is a LINK to a recent post showing the stack and the card I made).

Something told me these two were meant to be together - the style of flower and the size were very similar - so I made a quick card.  I cut the paper to 4 x 5 1/4 inches, inked the edges with brown ink, and placed it on a dark blue A2 card I made from Bazzill cardstock)

I used my Creative Memories 1 1/4 inch circle punch to punch around the pop-up flower.  I have had these punches for years and they are so handy for the graduated standard sizes.

I also punched a 1 1/4 inch circle in dark blue and then I used my CM precision point adhesive to adhere the two together (this gave me a more solid backing to adhere the flower to the card.

The flower fit perfectly in the row of printed flowers and just adds a bit of "punch" (pun intended - after all, I am staying with my Dad, the King of punsters!).

Here is a very close view of the punched flower on the card.

Sometimes it is great to be a messy scrapper - if I hadn't left these things on the island I might never have thought about putting them together!

(We had a beautiful day here in Pennsylvania for the reunion picnic and are planning on a rousing card game after we go out to dinner tonight.  We are going to play "Hand and Foot" - has anyone heard of this game?  I am not sure if it is unique to PA or even this particular part of PA so I am curious to know if any of my blog readers know about it.  This is a quick trip - we head back to Massachusetts tomorrow - I have had a few chances to check email and will try to catch up Sunday night).

  2. I like what you did with the pop up punch! Gorgeous card. Diane, Hand and Foot...my Grandpa taught me how to play this card game as an adult, along with Hearts! We don't play much anymore now he is no longer with us..but it is a fun game. Hope your cold is better, and have a safe trip home.

  5. I, too, bought that punch and then thought it was "defective" because it really didn't punch the flower out. Thanks, now I'll actually use it. Duh moment for me.

p.s. Never heard of the game out here in CA.

  8. Diane, that is a beautiful card!

We play Hand and Foot here in Florida, also in Virginia, Pennsylvania and anywhere else we can get together. My SIL makes AWESOME Hand and Foot holders for all of the cards (and he sells them!!)
