Border from a Banner (Stand and Salute)

Some people think that the Stand and Salute cartridge would not be all that useful for their projects because it is so "American." There are a lot of great USA, American and military images on the cartridge but with a little creativity and the Design Studio software you can adapt some of these to more general purposes - here is one example.

A few days ago I posted these borders. I created them using the banner image on the Stand and Salute cartridge.

The image I used is the bunting or banner highlighted in green in the screen shot above.

I welded five of these together and then used "hide selected contour" to delete the stars. Then I created a second strip that was turned 180 degrees and combined the two for a narrow border. I added a rectangle between the two strips of banners to create a medium width border and a full A2 card topper.

I cut the medium border strip from a DCWV pink damask cardstock from the "Luxury" stack - it has a very pretty shimmer (this is the same cardstock I used for the background of the Angel ATCs I posted a couple of days ago here is a LINK to that post for a better look at the paper).

I cut the actual card from a pearl cardstock from the Prima "First Blush Collection" pictured above. This is a lovely shimmery cardstock with a nice wieght for cards.

Here is the card with the border attached - the two shiny and shimmery papers look very elegant together (but they are a bit tricky to photograph!).

I added a metal tag that says "adorable" for a simple finishing touch on the card. I don't recall the manufacturer - this was in my "odds and ends" and turned out to match the colors nicely and even the flourish worked well with the paper for the border.

So there you have it - a card that doesn't really look "patriotic" or "American" but uses an element from the Stand and Salute cartridge to create a versatile new component for a card. There are three different files - one for each width of border.

I will try to post examples using the other sizes and some more variations soon. If you download the files, I'd love to see how you use these for one of your projects.

  2. How did I miss this post last year and then when I looked at the date again, I remembered that we were on vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains with our boys and their families. I just bought this cartridge and now I am going to make some borders. Just love this scalloped border. Thanks for explaining how.
