Candy Holder
Deb from the Cricut Message Board posted a really cute candy holder she found at a convention. I thought they were a great idea and knew I had to make a cut file for them!
First I looked around the house for some treat bags....
I found these - I got them many years ago for another craft project. Mine were 3 x 4 inches so I adapted my design to fit this size.
Here is a close up of the label for the information - they are by Wilton so should be available in many places (and there are probably lots of other similar ones to try).
After the file is cut, you will have three candy holders. Score them at 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 inches.
When they are scored and folder they look like this...
The file cuts the holes to thread the ribbon through for tying and I decided it would make sense to have a template for punching the holes in the clear bags.
I cut a piece of chipboard (actually an old tissue box) to three inches by about an inch. I centered it on the holder and flipped it over to see the location of the holes.
After marking the holes I punched with a regular office hole punch - the holes are spaced to match the cut.
This can be used over and over to punch the holes in the bags.
The holes will then be placed correctly and easily.
I marked the top for reference to get the spacing right.
To assemble, cut a piece of ribbon about 18 inches long, then thread it through the back of the holder. Remember - if you use a printed paper that has a direction (words or flowers with stems, etc.) you will want to be sure the the top side will end up being the one that has the right side up!
Next, thread the ribbon through the bag, aligning the holes.
Then thread the ribbon through the top holes and tie a nice bow!
The holder should stand nicely on the one inch bottom section created by the scoring and folding.
The 12 x 12 paper will look like this after cutting - you might be able to use this as a frame on a page - adding photos and journaling in the columns.
You also have six "leftover" hearts - you can use these for another project.
All sorts of candy can go inside and you can customize for each person you are giving these too! (make mine dark chocolate!)
This file uses Plantin Schoolbook on the 12 x 12 mat - there is also a page for cutting just one holder - this will fit on a baby bug mat but you need Plantin Schoolbook to cut it. I will try to do a file for George but will be on the road Friday taking my son back to college so it may take a day or two. It is a very simple file so, if you are new to Design Studio, this would be a good one to try to do on your own - just use my file as a reference for the sizes and locations of the elements and replace them with the same elements from the cartridge you have.
There are lots and lots of variations to try out - you could change the cut out shape to whatever suits your occasion, place only one cut out so you can stamp or add a message on the back, vary the edges with different borders, add additional cuts to decorate the holders - so many possibilities!
Have fun with these - and thanks to Deb for posting the ones she saw at the convention!
Candy Holder (3 x 4 bag)- Plantin Schoolbook
Edited 1-23-09 at 10:15 a.m. - I did the George file (I was worried about my baby bug friends!) I had to test cut it about ten times - one corner kept snagging and I am not sure if it was something to do with my mat or machine since the preview was fine. I think I finally have it but I am so late getting ready to go to NJ - if there is a problem when you cut it, let me know and I'll take a look at it when I can. My final one and the version I shared cut fine for me so you should be OK).
